Which fighters from the 12 round era are you confident would have been able to hang in the 15 round era? And which fighters from the 15 round era do you think would have found it toughest to adjust to 12 round title fights?
Mayweather and Froch would fit right in with the 15 round fighters. Hopkins and Pacquaio too. People like Pedroza and Pintor may be on the losing end of some controversial decisions, where they are the better fighters, if they kept up their slow starts. I think they'd be too clever to let that happen though.
Rough, I too thought of Pedroza and Pintor finding it harder to adjust to 12 as well as Alexis Arguello. These three were of the attrition type fighters who enjoyed the longer distance as they were working the body and slowly breaking down their opponents.
Yeah, it's like they came alive when the 13th bell rang. They always said 13 was an unlucky number. In this case, for the opponents!
I'm sure you can point to certain fighters (like De La Hoya) who would much prefer 12 rounds over 15. But, generally speaking, I see no reason why today's boxers couldn't fight in a 15 round era.
I think Bernard Hopkins and Julio Caesar Chavez would make great 15 round fighters. I think Salvador Sanchez and Wilfred Benitez would make great 12 round fighters.
I think Wlad would have faired well in the 15 rounders compared to the rest of the HW field today. He would prob have to be a few pounds lighter but would have been fine. Other people mentioned Paq and May and they’d be great in any era. Hopkins too. I think most shws would be in trouble agaiNt the first guy with a great work rate and chin they faced. Marciano would have struggled in 12 round fights as it kind of negates his best assets and that’s stamina. Heck he wouldn’t have been champion in a 12 round era against Walcott or beaten Charles the first time. So he would be my pick.
Mike Tyson would’ve done bad and well in 15 rounders, he would’ve done bad and well in 1000 rounders because he goes for the KO straight off the bat and either KO’s them early or if someone gets him out of the first round, it’s very possible that they stop him late on, I’m talking about at the world/elite level Tyson’s mentality was ‘I don’t care if it’s scheduled 1000 rounds, I’m KOing you in the first’ but when it did go long, he had blew himself out early on and they had solely intended on surviving the first few rounds and then they still had gas left late on, so he would’ve done well in some cases but when he got out of the first rounds, he betta hope to get a second wind and he betta hope to take advantage otherwise he’d be screwed
