Talking about the thunderous right that dropped Holmes in 1979 (2nd meeting).

Who of these ATGs make it out of round 7 after getting hit by such a right hand, 33 seconds until the end of the round? Of course that includes making the count + surviving 30+ seconds of Shavers attack.

In recent times, that bout is stopped with Holmes on the ropes and Earnie teeing off. Back then, fights were not waved off so fast. Another bout that is stopped is Holmes falling face first into the turnbuckle against Snipes.

Of course the biggest fly in the ointment is not many of those guys putting themselves in the position to get hit by the Shavers punch. It could be argued that was the first round Earnie won out of 17 rounds with the guy. So, should he be hit like that?

When Shavers started fighting better fighters...he had fewer KO's. He had stamina issues...and hardly a KO after the 7th round. Losing to Ron Lyle...Bob Stallings...Quarry...Bernardo Mercado...and Tex Cobb. The only rated fighters he beat were Jimmy Ellis & Ken Norton. He went the distance with Henry Clark..."Quick" Tillis...Leroy Boone...and Walter Santemore. He couldn't take out light heavy Vincente Rondon who had been KO'd by Bob Foster in 2 rounds!!! He'd struggled against all of them.Does he KO any of them? Shavers never had the knack of coming up with the big punch when he had to. He decked Holmes...and fought a 35 yr old...woefully out of shape Ali. He hurt both of them...but couldn't put them away. I think he gets KO'd more then he KO's any of the fighters on this list.

If shavers hit Marciano like that he would knock himself out.

Think everyone gets knocked down. Louis, Frazier, Marciano, Holyfield, Foreman, Tyson get up. A lot of those guys got knocked down in their careers but they always got up especially prime.

Tyson never got up to win actually. Although i think he'd beat shavers in an actual fight.

Agreed he beat 2 rated fighters, both of whom were washed up, and Ellis if I'm not wrong had the initial advantage before the ref saved Shavers. Yet you have people hear picking him over Foreman, and Frazier! I'm no math expert but something doesn't add up.

    Impossible to say really.

It would depend upon a number of factors, including how well they anticipated it.
