Man not even. .when he was 210 against briedis he looked a bit out of shape you can see the love handles and stuff. I think 207 -208 is his optimal weight the guy has it all at that weight.
I hope Usyk gets a chance to show us whether he can compete at heavyweight, would be a shame to see such a fantastic career drift into inactivity through persistent injury Does anyone know what the situation is with his WBO mandatory status? I could see Arum and Warren putting pressure on WBO to sideline Usyk and get there guys in to the mandatory slot, is that likely to happen?
I absolutely love Usyk. In-fact I'd probably have to concede he's my favourite boxer of all time. All the same I can't help but suspect we may already have seen him peak at this stage in his career. His style of boxing doesn't lend itself to longevity (or at-least it doesn't in my opinion -but then I've never claimed to be an expert.) That said though I hope he proves me wrong, recovers from his injuries and has a good run at heavyweight, eventually ending his career on a high note with a few more master classes in the sweet science under his belt.
Wtf does hurting an elbow have to do with moving up from CW to HW? Too much weight on his arms? Bunch of very bad doctors up in here....
He's running out of time, so this is no good. He's eventually going to heal up just enough to do a Sergio Martinez where he gets a decent payday against Hrgovic or one of the other up and comers. But I think his moment to get the top three is slipping a way. Either Fury or Wilder shortly will be No. 3 by a wide margin, and Wilder at least is getting up there, too.
Fighters get hurt, it happens. I suspect he will get his chance to fight a top guy later this year or early next year. He’s not a young guy but hasn’t had much mileage as a pro. He’s definitely sparring against bigger guys so the chances of getting hurt are greater. It’s not like Usyk is holding a belt hostage or delaying a championship fight. He’s just an up and comer at the weight. If he does well, it’s good for the division. If he doesn’t, we are no worse off than before he dipped his toe in the HW waters. Interested to know how serious this injury is but we will know soon.
I think the WSB 211-212 lb Usyk who looks less stiff, more agile, faster and just more dynamic to me is the best and most suited Usyk for Mission HW takeover. But that being said, I'd rather see the 207-208lb version we've seen dominate CW up at HW than the 215lb one we saw against Witherspoon. The one we saw against Witherspoon is still fast and formidable and the most skilled HW on the planet, though. And to be fair to him he was coming off a long layoff, a very serious injury, and Witherspoon was a very late replacement so I'm sure he'll look better next time out.
You people are so pessimistic, when Loma got injured you were all like “OMG Loma going to get schooled next fight, fam, Wtf heheheh.” just shut up
agreed looking forward to it , i have a feelinng usyk can show skill <size . kind of like bring back the way heavies use to be during the ali times 200 - 220 optimal weights for 6,1 - 6,4 fighters . Have you seen todays heavies ?? dudes are all over 220 oscar rivas who is 6 feet weighed in at 239 pounds against whyte . thats him being 6 feet only that means he was heavier that than a prime foreman , ali and Liston . but still shorter
I hope so. He just needs to find his optimum weight for HW and remain injury free and he should be fine. Yes the HWs of today are enormous. Most of today's top 10 weigh between 240-270lbs
ESB doctors are amongst the best in the world. They can diagnose the issue without examining the patient or even knowing the symptoms.
