You're absolutely spot on there mate, Sky are slightly desperate right now. I cancelled Sky Sports over 2 years ago but they kept giving me the PL channel for free presumably to 'remind me' of what I was missing out on. Last week decided to resubscribe to all 8 Sky Sports channels and they gave them to me for £20 a month (18 month contract), not bad at all. The bargains are there with a bit of patience and know how.
Cancelled Sky last week. I was paying £31 for the entertainment + full sports + HD. My feedback on the phone was the boxing content has fallen off a cliff and the PPV is on the verge on scandalous. The chap I spoke to was a boxing fan as well and pretty much agreed with me without saying it. We then spent 10 mins talking about Fury vs Wilder.. hope his call wasn't recorded!
When you say 'PPV is on the verge (of) scandalous' what are you comparing it to? A decade ago, Khan v Maidana, Haye v Harrison, Brook v Jennings and Haye v Ruiz were all on Sky PPV. How many were on last year? Five? (Two Joshua fights against Ruiz plus Whyte Rivas, Taylor Prograis and Lomachenko Campbell.) I completely get people saying they don't want to pay for PPV. But I wonder if it's really any worse than it's been for a good while now.
I can see a fair few PPV’s over the next few months in addition to the 3 mentioned. We already have Wilder v Fury plus Dubois v Joyce on BT plus Josh Warrington at Elland Road will be PPV. At Matchroom they have BJS and Callum Smith to work out and they will both be looking for PPV regardless of whether they fight Canelo or against each other. After last weekend there is Kell Brook who will also be after a last PPV payday.
Add a couple for Eubanks Jnr, 1-2 for Josh Taylor, one for KSI v Pope John Paul's brother and Shell Brook may get a final bag of PPV loot.
£31 per week for entertainment, sports and movies ?? That is steep. I'm paying £12 a week for the entertainment and sports channels (no movies though). Keep ringing them back, tell them you're interested in resubscribing but the prices are too much right now. Might not work straightaway but they'll eventually cave and give you a discount. Trust me mate, they're desperate for subscribers.
I feel the same way Nasal. That is a proper fight. For what it's worth I would also rather pay to watch Brook v Smith than the other 3 fights mentioned.
I agree. The PPV's would be easier to swallow if Matchroom would up the quality of the Saturday Night Fights. They could fill Lord knows how many cards with British / English / Area Title fights which always produce terrific action.
Pay to watch Shell Brook v Average Beef for a standard class inter city express rail timetable - man this is why Eh Day can sell a parking ticket back to a traffic warden. If the conhort of PPV Mugths keep on giving, Eh Day, Sky and the fighters will keep on taking. Watch the Eubanks Jnr burglary footage, where he flaunts his wealth extracted from the PPV mugths and wake up people FFS. All current Sky Sports and BT Sports subscribers should boycott all PPVs and the concept will die. If the fighters won't fight for the money on offer for what are non PPV worthy fights anyway, then others will step up to take the fights. The boxthing world can survive easily without Usyk v Pudding Chisora, Tony Dosh PPV v Pudding Pulev, Pudding Whyte v Pudding Povetkin and any future fight involving Shell Brook.
I've got no problem with Fighters earning well Jurgen and I don't mind chipping in. It's more a question on levels as far as I'm concerned. If I've got to dig a bit deeper I want to know that there are 2 live dogs in the fight.
We have had some real gash on PPV including non title fights, British Title Fights, IBO Title Fights, Exhibition Fight, Heavyweight Pudding Bragging Rights Fights, 100/0 fights, Cartoon You Tube Fights, Toe Haye on 1 Leg fights and Kell Brook v Frankie Gavin. The endless list of stonkers is brutal yet the cohort of PPV Mugths come back for a bigger poking each time.
True enough mate. If I don't reckon a fight is worth it I won't bother. Regardless of how much I love the sport, I'm not going to pay an extra £20.00 to watch Chisora eat Usyk's shots but I'll gladly stump up for Dubois v Joyce. In that sense I guess I am half way to where you are. If no one pays to watch Usyk v Chisora then Fast Eddie is going to have to think about the quality of the product. Sadly, the Del Boy cult of personality will produce Pound notes.
