Thanks for this @CST80 , really good work. I've always thought Barrera won the first but got jipped and Morales won the second and got jipped. I felt that Barrera did edge the trilogy. Really appreciate your insight.

I scored each installment of their epic trilogy for Barrera, though all were close - and in the Marco Antonio Barrera super-thread I ranked Morales II & III as his greatest and second greatest victories.

1. EM 10-9, good round to start. Barrera did well early but Morales's boxer-puncher approach saw him land harder shots more consistently.

2. EM 10-9, really fun round (as can be said about most). Barrera landed better shots imo but Erik looked in control for more of the round and landed big shots of his own. Could flip flop this one.

3. MAB 10-9, good pressure by Barrera here, lots of hard body shots and cut of the ring well. Had Morales on the ropes continually and came out on top of most exchanges.

4. MAB 10-9, great round. See above.

5. EM 10-9, loads of momentum shifts here. Classic round. Morales definitely won though, too many hard shots throughout even with Barrera fighting back so hard, it was in bursts and not enough to win the round imo.

6. MAB 10-9, Barrera forcing it more imo, Morales boxing well but Barrera doing better work for more of the round.

7. MAB 10-9, Barrera picking up the pace now, going aggressive from the start and putting it on Morales.

8. MAB 10-9, really good close round. Morales won the first half clearly imo but MAB dominated the second half. Barrera landed some really nice shots towards the end, and more throughout. Great exchange to finish it up.

9. EM 10-9, Morales doing better the whole round and landed hard shots whilst in the centre of the ring. Barrera landed the hardest shots of the round at the very end.

10. EM 10-9, slower round, lots of clinching. I thought Erik got the better of most exchanges except the one where he stumbled and looked hurt. Close round though, could see a switch.

11. MAB 10-9, landed more and pressured well, won the exchanges on the ropes as well imo.

12. MAB 10-8, close round, KD aside. I thought Morales got the better of it but not enough to pull it back to a 10-9.

Great fight, as we all know. Love both guys but I will go on record and admit that I prefer Morales and his style, although I am still a massive fan of Barrera and his own approach. I'm of the opinion that Morales was the greatest of the 2000's Mexican trio, and he's the only 1 to make my Top 100 P4P.

This is generally viewed as a robbery and the credit is often given to Barrera, which is fair enough imo, but it's undersold how well Morales did here, but imo Morales was brilliant, just didn't win.

Barrera's style is really fun though. Lots of pressure and aggression. His footwork was nice and angled to cut the ring off well, he has nice (underrated) defence and counter abilities as well as a very serviceable jab. Erik Morales is one of the best modern textbook examples of perfect boxer-puncher.
