Their both strong, both can hit, both take a good shot. Its close in many categories but in the speed department Tyson has a clear edge. It would be interesting to If Liston could force Tyson to back up. If he does he could win, probably would.
If Mike is able to come forward with his usual force he's gonna land first

Though I probably like Iron Mike a bit better than @swagdelfadeel I can't entirely argue his points. Even the Foreman jab has some validation according to insiders. Mike didn't want to fight George.

I still place Mike above Liston as ATG. I just don't think he would have beat him prime for prime. Liston's being older when he hit his prime would have worked against a young, impetuous-but-impressionable Mike. Liston's eyes would have already won the fight during the staredown...even the young and terrifying Foreman was scared of Sonny.

Agreed. I have no problem that you rank Tyson over Liston (though I tend to rank Liston higher) but to say that you can't see any way Liston could be ranked over Tyson is laughable and bull****.

Never could see Tyson beating Sonny Liston for all the reasons listed on here. Mike walks to the center of the ring and stares at a man who was hired to break up union strikes, wading through men carrying ax handles. Tyson was playing the thug life, Sonny was the real deal.Mikey would mentally crumble and probably come out firing right into Sonny's power . Charles Sonny Liston has Tyson looking for his mouthpiece again around the 6th to 8th round, however it could end much quicker

@RulesMakeItInteresting Excuse me, you' re not drunk, are you? #1 Sonny Liston nuthugger is wearing a mask. Suddenly a easonable poster? What a laugh  :

    https://www.boxing(delete)scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706099

Argue his "points"....or better say agenda?
Buster Douglas, who did not loose to Ferguson (watch it) and looked terrific with the jab, was a bum, but Liston losing to 180_1/2lb Marty Marshall is no problem, since "Douglas was bum" and Marshall was some kind of world beater, ha? What a joke. Tyson "lost all his signature fights", exept beating the **** outa Berbick for the Guinness World Record, only person to stop Larry Holmes, absolute steamroll a fellow in the richest fight in boxing history up to that point, grossing around $70 million, winning the title again...But sure, Liston had tons of signature fights he won, against, let me guess, ONE SINGLE iron chinned fighter. Yeah thats good points
Lets talk about quitting at the end of a boxing career. When I remember correct, Liston quit when he wasn´t even at the end of his carrer, crawling and rolling over the ringfloor like an idiot, after "taking a teriffic beating...NOT" for seconds into the fight. Tyson got ear-munching rage mode? Liston absolutely did this show, too.
Talking about points. "He ducked Foreman." We´ve had this a million times now, with Foreman admitting via "written srouce" as well as "audiovisual sources" numerous of times now that he wasn exactly gagging to meet Mike Tyson.

    This content is protected

    In short words:

    - Liston lost to a true LHW-bum, no 82" reach fellow with a jab. Want to make a poll who "was more bum" Marshall or Douglas?
    - Liston did have two signature fights he won against a single medicore chinned opponent. Want to make a poll who beat better guys in better fashion, who had more signature wins?
    - Liston quit TWO times in the middle of his career. Want to make a poll about who took more brave punishment when quitting twice in that department?
    - We´ve already had the Foreman debate, tons of posts, nothing new here...
    - Want to compare who beat better guys in more devastating fashion in a poll?

Liston does not have the resume to pick him confidently over top 10 ATGs who did simply prove much more safely. Nothing against Liston, he didn´t got much chance to show more of what he might be able to do. Just logic and reasonable arguing.

Ferguson W10 Douglas. Get over it.
He was called Buster for a reason
You didn't mention, how many fights Liston had before this. Don't worry. I'll save you the trouble. He had 6 fights before he fought Marshall and was winning handily before breaking his jaw and still fought on valiantly to an SD which could've gone either way. I'd hardly compare that to losing to a 49-1 underdog in the prime of his career.
Tyson's signature fights were against Holyfield and Lewis. Did he beat any of them in three tries?
Liston's signature fights were against Patterson and Ali.

Their are so many question marks about this fight and no certainties about anything whether Liston was legitimately knocked down, took a dive, layed down for the mob, etc
did you or anyone who keeps spouting this nonsense actually watch that ****ing interview? Not only is it clear that Foreman said it as a joke but he also says Tyson avoided him and he would've defeated Tyson. Jesus Christ stop making a fool of yourself.

Wanna make a poll who "was more bum" Danny Williams or Marshall
    - Liston did have two signature fights he won against a single medicore chinned opponent. Want to make a poll who beat better guys in better fashion, who had more signature wins?
Already mentioned the 2nd Ali fight above. But as for the first fight, Liston put up a much better fight against Ali than Tyson did vs Douglas and was stopped by a severe shoulder injury (tp the point where he couldn't move his arm without pain) testified by 7 doctors. Of course that doesn't compare to Tyson biting off Holyfield's ear, and quitting in fights he was winning.
Then why is he picked over the likes of Frazier, Tyson, Marciano, etc regularily?

As for the who beat who in better fashion and who's competition was superior, I don't put to much stock in it because it is all speculation.

Why the hell do people keep bringing up the recent Foreman interview (which I am starting to doubt many of you have actually watched) when he says he was scared of Tyson, but neglect to mention that

    1. It was clearly meant as a joke as he said he thought Tyson would bite his ear off.

    2. He says in that same interview that he had Tyson's number and would've taken him.

    3. These same people will dismiss Foreman's other claims by saying stuff like "take anything that Foreman says with a grain of salt" when it doesn't suit their agenda.

Jesus ****ing Christ. Are you people really this ****ing dense?

With wins over Dejohn, Williams x2, Nino, Machen, Harris, Folley, Floyd x2, Clark, Rischer, Wepner, whitehurst, Bethea and more his record is impressive. Especially considering the time it took him to KO his victims. I don’t think anyone did it quicker against very good opposition. His opponents were on the smaller side so there is that “knock” against him. But he was able to KO all kinds of opponents from slick boxers to sluggers like Williams.
He was Tyson before Tyson. I know people think he “only had one defense” “mob owned” but that demeans his accomplishments. Idk what fights can be proved were “mob controlled fixes” if someone knows please state which ones if any. One of the strongest fighters to ever lace them up with one of the best jabs to boot. A H2H monster in his prime.
I reposted this as opposed to typing it out again. Tyson was great and like I said previously I put them at about even money at their best. But people saying Liston doesn’t have a resume to compare to Tyson couldn’t be more wrong.

Watch the fight, the decision was nonsense. Ferguson was hurt badly in R1, saved by the bell, preventing him from almost losing this via KO1.

Shall we put the same amount of critics regarding a young ATG, in this case 19y old Tyson meeting Tillis, on another ATG here, 22-25y old Sonny Liston? How often did Tysons jaw fold against 180lb LHWs? He. Lost! To a LHW, as a young fresh boxer. HW ATGs do not loose against 180-pounders.

:risas3: How many signature fights against HW ATGs did Sonny liston have? Who did more and better boxing here? Oh sure, Liston did very well in two ATG (very green ATG for that instance...) meetings....oh my!
Listons signature wins were Patterson, but Tyson did much worse against Berbick (Guiness World Record), against a former ATG in Holmes, and against a comparable LHW in Spinks. Oh I forgot. This ain´t signature wins the way Liston had .

Ok fine. Whats best? Getting KOd in 1, quitting R1, or planning to quit via staged circus act in R1?

The Foreman sources are on Twitter, YT and anywhere else. He knew this would be tough. We had a long long thread here in the Classics. The absolute minority believes old Foreman would beat young Tyson here, of course.

Yepp, comparing old stoned part-time boxer Tyson with a young Sonny Liston at the beginning of his 20s, thats the sort of rational reasoning I would expect from fellow with posts like this https://www.boxing(delete)scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706099

I like the way you ignore the verbal ecstasis of yours here . Yap, thats the neaty thougtful boxing debate everyone´s gonna love to see --->:eusa_liar:

Very debatable if Liston did much better against Ali 1, Douglas got knocked down here too. Give me a break. Wasn´t there this substance that blinded Ali as well, taking away another round (Ali gave rounds away moving anyway, without any danger) :D

Thats exactly the question here! But of course, since you´re not wearing coloured glasses regarding Sonny Listons, this should be no problem for you...

Sure, you don´t care lol
Com´on #1 Sonny Liston fan out there: Want to make a poll of who beat better H2H-opposition in a more dominating fashion, with quicker and better KOs , comparing the H2H-KO-artist of yours??

Oh, thats a knock against a fighter for you? Didn´t know that  Never heard of any 20-30lb weight disparity problems regarding any threads you´d enter.
Of course, having a couple of 20/30 losses fellows @ the resume isn´t either. We know, magnificence goes with the amount of color on screen (and time passing) :D

It's becoming increasingly clear that you think bringing up valid points in Liston's defense equates to a fanboy and cannot argue without insulting. Unfortunately i get no pleasure in debating with posters like you so i will not bother responding. You are going on ignore.

Come on Gazelle. This is way to accurate, well written, and objective in a thread like this. You should've posted something along the lines of Liston, blababla 20 pounds blababa, cruiserweight blababa,, quit Ali blababla. You're better than this man!

    Me, insulting?
Whats the way you´d like to debate? Via drunk notorious Tyson hating ecstasis, like you did in boxing_scene (link), as here @ BF24 too, in dozens of other posts?
Who do you think you´re hoaxing here?

There isn´t any problem the way I talk to you, since you have no interest in having any objective debate involving this Tyson guy. Or would you care in debating sleekness meeting this other fellow wearing the Gerry-Cooney-handicap , coming in with auto capslock?

Your stuck badly (in Listons trousers), pretending an open objective Tyson dabate. Sure lol. You won´t bother

Not really a knock for me but people like you obsessed with height and weight it’s a “knock”. Liston is taller and with the better reach kind of goes against your thinking no? The amount (Or lack there of) of losses on a fighters resume means nothing. Means they probably haven’t fought anyone worth note. Hence why your obsession to hate, Marciano isn’t number one all time.

How is it demeaning to Sonny's legacy to mention that he was mob owned?

It's not in dispute lmao. The mob owned him. And the integrity of Liston's legacy meant jack squat to them.

Maybe there's a world where the mob would own a fighter and only fix losses, but that seems fanciful even for this forums standards.

They had a legit great fighter and knockout puncher in Liston, do you really think the mob wouldn't maximize that asset on both the way up and the way down? Those guys couldn't care less about what posters fifty years later would think and how pure Liston's legacy was. They care more about how to make as much betting cash as possible off a guy who wasn't much of a draw.
