Surprised this hasn't been done before. Nunn is one of the very few fighters I'd favour over Robinson at Middleweight. Thoughts?
The best Robinson at 160 would beat him reasonably comfortably. At least as quick, far more powerful, more heart for the battle, more durable and more skilled.
I think Robinson would be equally as able as Toney was to start reading Nunn's speed and style. Difference being is that unlike Toney, Robbi's footwork was very fluid so he probably sets up and tags the right hand counter quicker. I'd favour Robbi 9 - 6 if he's not knocking him out probably.
I see Robinson having to adjust to Nunn's speed, height,and southpaw attack. Their wasn't many fighters in history that could match Robinson in speed, Nunn was one of those few. Robinson probably losses a few rounds early in the fight, but the difference would be Robinson's ability to adjust, and his power. Robinson starts finding his range and timing Nunn around the 5th rd. Right lead after a southpaw throws his jab followed by a left hook, would be the key after a sustained body attack. Nunn will eventually make the mistake of being in one spot for a split second to long. Gets caught and stopped. If he somehow survive, he losses a unanimous dec.
Would be a good fight for 7 or 8 rounds until Sugar Ray works out Nunns style then he would finish it
After presenting Ray with some problems early on, Nunn would unravel and spend 10 seconds on his back in the 6th, courtesy of a SRR cocktail of body shots capped off by a left hook to the head.
Nunn has the ability to give Robinson an headache for a while. Hed fight with sugar on equal terms for at least 8 rounds imo. Then we'd see Robbo figuring him out and getting closer till he'd nail him, probably with a lighting hook from nowhere. Certainly not a mismatch.
Nunn is capable of beating him on any given note. 6-2 southpaw with speed and skill dont grow on trees. He presents a puzzle to everyone he fights. I believe the mid 50s late 50s Robinson would lose a decision more than likely. Peak Sugar was too dynamic, too fast, too versatile for Nunn to last 15.
