It's good marketing. Couple this with the Fury family documentary that ITV have been showing and their reshowing of Wilder v Fury 1 and you can see the thinking at work. Reach all those people on free to air tv and look to convert as many PPV purchases as possible. It would be interesting to know how ITV have been paid. Will they get a share of PPV's which can be tracked from their channel? Or is their cut just the advertising that BT Sport may be purchasing? Either way, a good approach to increase potential sales.
It’s a shame that this isn’t a regular thing and just to hype the PPV. Mick has got a couple of shows coming up and Hobson has a card at the end of the month. Free to air boxing works when the promoters are sensible and concentrate on putting on entertaining fights not spending the budget on one headliner.
Very good marketing. I really like BT- their promos are first class and they bring a fresh approach from Sky. I’m glad they’ve got the fight.
Full televised card is on BT Sport 1 from 8. Then probably Sadiq v Davies and Foster v Reid will be simulcast on both channels. Good idea gives the fighters wider exposure as well as pulling in more numbers for Fury afterwards
Not really sure how many people will watch Sadiq v Davies and Foster v Reid and then decide to spend £25 and get up at 5am to watch Fury that wouldn’t have already been buying the PPV anyway.
Still gives the fighters a wider exposure than if it was only on BT Sport so it’s a win win situation
Hughie Fury vs Sam Sexton was watched by well over a million on Channel 5. ITV has a even bigger reach, so you are talking a massive amount of exposure potentially. Great for the lads being shown and if only 5% pay for the PPV that wouldn't have. It is an extra 50,000 buying it.
Who knows? I could see it getting put on a few pubs tv's so some will be thinking of boxing as closing time approaches. If the approach works, it could make ITV a part of future US based PPV marketing campaigns. If not, ITV got some free/cheap content. Some people got to see boxing who wouldn't normally and the BT marketing team at least have some data to analyse to see what did and didn't work.
Don't disagree with the exposure it gives those fighting on ITV just questioning how it will have a significant effect on PPV numbers, a bit like advertising the World Cup Final for £25 during the Coverage of a League 2 game free on ITV , the conversion rate would be nowhere near 5% imo. I'm not knocking it as I will watch on ITV too I just think anyone who is going to buy it will do so regardless , BT have to try everything they can though judging by some of the figures going around with what they paid for the rights, good luck to them.
Its not like that at all..... Someone watching league 2 is football fan ,Likewise someone watching small hall shows is a boxing fan.....We like the sport itself.Look at probably the biggest fight ever Floyd v Pac ,it was a stinker .... If we have got to a point that we have boxing snobs then thats a sad state ....just casuals i suppose

I'm saying I don't think many people will be converted from watching Sadiq v Davies on ITV to paying £25 to watch Fury at 5am the next morning that wouldn't already be paying to watch it anyway. Not sure where 'boxing snobs' or 'casuals' etc has come from ? As you say a fan is a fan and a fan will be buying the PPV already and a casual will probably still be buying it, a fan will watch the ITV show and a casual more than likely wouldn't.
Added to the BT, ITV involvement, Talk Sport are doing the radio commentary while BBC’s Mike Costello is being sent over to do podcasts. It’s an extremely odd mixture, can’t. recall a similar model of such diversity of outlets. Maybe that’s it, the current buzzword, “diversity”!
