Whether we agree or disagree with the OP, credit to him for creating an interesting debate with a post he clearly put a lot of thought and time into.
Look, nice list, but can we get something straight for all forum members with comprehension problems - Whyte is WBC Interim Champion... NOT mandatory challenger. There is a political, legal, and physical difference.
Where do you draw the line at past records though? Over the last 4 fights Taylor is streets ahead of Khan in terms of wins and ability. Khans last decent win was 5 years ago. If Benn had made that comeback would he have been straight in near the top because of his past record?
If it had been a list for strongest resume of active boxers Khan would defo be up there, but a p4p list he wouldn't be in my top 10 at the moment.
It’s one of those. Khan hasn’t had a big win in a number of years, so how far back do you look re: resume.
Haha you don’t stop do you mate! That said I would have Whyte at the lower part of my top 10. Has beat some decent guys
I kept scrolling thinking is Whyte even on this list. He's in the wrong place at number 19, but guess the OP saved face by even including Whyte somewhere.
Fair point. Will defo take that into account. Although I’d presume Khan is a lot closer to his prime than Benn if he were to come back.
No saving face. Most of the people above him have held a world title, and are better technical boxers. Just proves how subjective it all is.
When people talk about resumes, why do they ignore losses? No way does Joshua deserve to be above Fury, he got knocked out by Ruiz who is an average heavyweight. Joshua also nearly got knocked out by Wlad, who didn't land a punch on Fury.
You state current as the primary theme of your topic, and "records" as a criteria for selection... and yet you have Fury at number TWO and Whyte at number NINETEEN? I trust the majority will see a huge injustice in that assertion. You didn't speak about "historic" as a theme or criteria... then Fury might have made sense but still not 17 places ahead of Whyte. Fury HAD titles then chose to WALK away... so that period doesnt fit the "current" label you are have so duly put as criteria. And since when did "technical ability" overshadow real world results? Because Whyte still beat a lot of top guys, despite not being the prettiest to look at stylistically. Whyte's resume in the most recent fights overshadows Fury's
A loss doesn't mean a boxer is useless. Floyd could have lost against Castillo easily, Fury definitely didn't win the first McDermott fight, but they have to be considered in context. They were quite a long time ago. The simple reality is that since Fury beat Klitschko Joshua has also beaten Klitschko, as well as Whyte, Martin, Breazeale, Molina, Povetkin, Takam, Parker and Ruiz. Fury has beaten Seferi, Pianeta, Schwarz and Wallin. And that's it. When people ask how far we go back it's a legitimate point. Does it feel like a long time since Barack Obama was the US president and Brexit literally wasn't a word? If so, remember that Fury beating Klitschko was significantly longer ago.
