My main big knuckle on my right hand is agony when I hit the bag it’s like a very dull but intense pain and only when I punch hard, it also doesn’t hurt to touch and can’t emulate the pain apart from hard punching has anyone had this or know what it is?

got almost 3 weeks to wait to see a doctor, it started about 5 weeks ago and rested it that whole time but it’s still there when I trained today, next time I will try adding more padding in my wrap and see if it makes any difference but will be good to hear if anyone has had similar?

Shows you don't have what it takes to make it in this industry.

Same thing happened to my pinky knuckle as Inhad punched a wall out of anger with the wrong part

but I had to give it a lot of rest and I had iced it a lot when the damage was done

Now the pain is 85 per cent gone after about 2 months

so just give it more time and rest I know its very frustrating but what you gonna do??? Make it permanently worse just to squeeze some training in???

take this time to work on other things... the hand has a lot of delicate bones and connective tissue wait for the doctor to assess it

Just get lots of good nutrients in for the time being

Previously I had been strengthening my hand a lot using bag work without gloves and wraps so that certainly gave my hand more support otherwise the damage would have been greater to my knuckle when i punched the wall

I had a problem like that over 30 years ago. The middle knuckle on my right hand would scream every time I hit anything. I used extra wraps, sponges, every idea anyone had and nothing worked. I went to the doctor and he found nothing wrong.

I thought I was going to have to quit boxing and hitting the bags. I broke down the mechanics of how I was throwing my right hand and realized I was landing it from too far away, because of where my right foot was. It stopped hurting right away and hasn't hurt since.

haha suppose I won’t quit the day job cause I don’t have the minerals

thanks bud il try icing it, I’ve been doing a lot of googling and searching and sounds like a deep tissue bruise apparently can take months to heal so your right il just work on other things

16oz hayabusas can’t remember model they have been great for about year and half and comfiest glove ever owned. Ordered some rival rb1’s 12 oz last week when I was drunk but excited to get them but worried about lighter glove and my injury so will have to hold off with heavy use but will see what they are like

interesting thanks for that. Did the pain stop straight away like a light switch or did you let it heal before changing technique and it never came back?

Ok. The Hayabusa t3's are good gloves. I just got some Rival RB bag gloves and absolutely love them! Good luck with knuckle problem! I have been there myself and know how frustrating it is.

If anyone’s interested I have managed 24 x 3min rounds on the bag the past couple days plus 30sec on/off fast flat out for 10 rounds each day about 99% pain free. I bought some new rival rb1s and been on a different heavy bag which is heavier but bigger/softer so I’m not sure if the gloves or bag have helped or combination of both. Feels good to put all my power into it again. I don’t think I’m cured though cause I felt a little niggle a few times I just think the combo of bag and gloves are Re-distributing power or something

I’ve had a similar problem with the middle knuckle on my right hand (southpaw) all my life.

I fixed it in the gym by taking a foam pad and cutting a hole out for that knuckle. Basically there’s padding on all the other knuckles and none on that one so it evens out — my middle knuckle protrudes more so all impact was being absorbed by it.

Never had another problem. Got this adhesive padding at an auto parts store (comes in a strip about 2 inches wide), doubled it back on itself (sticking the adhesive sides together) and cut the hole out. First pad lasted years, then got tamped down so I made a second. Never had a third and that’s over a couple decades.
