Patterson by UD , Ezzard doesn't possess the firepower to rattle Floyd , 144-141

Patterson was knocked down by both Harris, and Rademacher,I think we can assume Charles possessed at least as much power as them.

I like Floyd to finally win his first ever HW hypothetical fight in the history of ESB! Good competitive fight that Floyd wins 8-6-1 on the cards

I guess it just boils down for me that Ezzard is the far better fighter , but I think Floyd my be the better heavyweight.

This is a really good matchup. And Floyd was every bit as much a lightheavyweight as Ezzard ever was. Which makes this an excellent technical fight. A Skilful series of fights that could go as far as 5 fights.. to find a winner. It really could go the way of Charles vs Walcott series. Very technical fights where over the course of it Floyd works out a way to win one of them by knockout but where Charles mostly has the measure and control of things. Of the two of them I feel Floyd would be the one going for the knockout. Charles would take it if it came but wouldn’t be looking for it. Nobody ever convincingly outpointed Charles in a chess match. He really worked off the other mans effort and would often strike out and lead as soon as the other man paused for thought. But Floyd could really fight. He’s good enough to win too.

Yeah, Ezz wins this imo, HW or LHW.

He's a bad style for Floyd imo, he picks his spots well and stings fast and hard with his pin-point counters. If he lands on the button, I see Floyd going down, and he would land. Floyd's very explosive, if he lands clean he could hurt Ezz and put him in a Walcott 4/Marciano 1 like mode where he spoils a lead, but I think Ezz treats it like he did Moore or Layne 3 where he holds his ground and uses counters whilst keeping his cool and taking advantage of Patterson's looping shots and less than perfect chin.

    Charles UD15 in a 50/50.

Slight stylistic edge to Patterson perhaps.

Yes, it is a great matchup - but do we have to have it twice each year?
Two great fighters - Hard to decide, but I lean to Floyd, but it is close.

Before 1955? Perhaps Ezz a close UD much like the Maxim-Floyd scrap. Afterwards? No contest; Floyd all the way.
Sidebar: Charles is one of my top 5 fav fighters of all time. Greatest LH of all time IMO.
Floyd obviously is my favorite fighter of all time. Due to their birth dates this isn't really a fair thread....
Obviously a 53-54 light Patterson wouldn't have had the experience to deal with Ezz.
I edited this after further thought.
