I thought the same thing too when it was announced. Guess we'll find out, I still think Fury has too much for Wilder but if that cut opens up it could be bad news for Fury.
Bob Arum has said that this is the biggest heavyweight since Ali-Frazier in 1971. Kind of agree, the parallels are there. Ali undefeated and lost his titles due to inactivity and Frazier (also undefeated) took the title in his absence. The biggest heavyweight puncher of a generation vs the best heavyweight pure boxer of his generation.
Don't quite get Fury's 3 fights left talk, if he wins well (as I suspect he will) he needs to clear out the scene (not clear out of the scene)
My friend sent me a picture earlier of somebody that was interviewed at the Fury Wilder thing earlier. Said he was a 6”7 boxer who only weighs 150lbs. Any idea who he’s talking about?
If there was a way both Wilder and Fury could KO themselves out in the fight and retire from boxing completely then I hope it happens.
Both limited, flawed and overrated fighters. I hope Fury pulls off the win though. This is due to if Fury wins there's small chance he would accept the AJ fight. We know from all the previous turned down offers and what Dibella stated that there is no chnace Haymon will allow Wilder to fight AJ no matter what money is offered.
Fury was a far better fighter pre retirement coke/eating binge whilst on the PEDs. Even then Fury had a suspect jaw and was featherfisted. Now going on his previous fights since coming out of retirement he looks to have much slower foot work, reflexes and is certainly more hittable struggling against a fighter outside the top 40. Still this current version of Fury makes it a more even fight ( PED fury would have schooled Wilder) with Wilder whom as proven with Washington, Ortiz and Spzilka he can be out boxed in numerous rounds by average boxers.
Biggest HW fight in nearly FIFTY YEARS. Let’s hope it lives up to the billing. honestly? I can’t see any way it doesn’t, either we are on the edge of our seats for every second fury is able to avoid that right hand, or we get another brutal ko from that right hand. Or option c which would blow my mind and I find highly unlikely but you can never write off Fury, is that he takes the fight to wilder, grinds him down and stops the stopper. That would be history making stuff. does fury have it in him to stay utterly switched on and composed for 2,160 seconds? My head says not, I think he gets tagged and eventually stopped. Can see him getting back up for more again and again because he has no quit in him. Could be brutal. Could be a masterclass the other way. These two will go down in history because they fought each other, both prime, both undefeated, both with everything to lose. Boxing history loves these fights. We are privileged to be watching. I know you're fishing but I'll take the bait this time. Are you arguing that the Fury that fought Swartz / Wallin didn't have better head movement than the Fury that fought Chisora? Or fought Cunningham? I agree he has showed slower footwork - his movement was great vs Klitschko but since then he has been more static but his head movement has vastly improved. Not having that he's more hittable, Fury pre-Klitschko often stood in front of an opponent and whipped hooks round the guard, but usually took overhand shots back (see Cunninghma.)
Unfortunately that's how I see it going. Would love it if Fury wins and will be supporting him all the way, but just can't see how Wilder won't catch him at some point.
