I did not gather this from any official source other than just counting his fights on boxrec. Some of the lines separating heavyweight from light heavyweight were blurry back in those days and I’m not even sure how some of these fights were “officially” billed. So here is the criteria I used which stands to be corrected. 1. I only counted fights as being heavyweight fights when BOTH combatants had listed weights of over 175 lbs. for example if one fighter was listed as being 172 and another as being 180 then I did not count it as a heavyweight fight. 2. I did not include fights where NO weight was listed. That said I came up with a heavyweight record for Moore of 67-4-3-46. Not sure if all of these fights were billed as heavyweight bouts or for that matter if perhaps there were more which should have been. But on the surface this looks like a pretty damn good record for a guy who is all too often dismissed as being a mere “ light heavyweight. “
he certainly beat a lot of guys who were named. To be fair some of them spent much of their careers at light heavyweight as well but still good record
Technically over175lbs makes you a heavyweight in Moore's time. Practically speaking how many actually were heavies?
Beat more then most heavies that are considered great. As far as “end of year rankings” go I always think you or others Put to much emphasis on it. Who cares if they were ranked a year later or two prior? It’s not a perfect system and usually you try to dismiss good wins because of it. Not an accusation just a friendly question/observation. Pretty sure it’s more then 9 and if you were to count wins against the likes (I know u and others don’t but because they weren’t HW, to me it’s fair to simply point out) Johnson and Maxim.
yes and I only counted fights where both contestants were over 175. As per how many were heavyweights I’m assuming you mean ones who spent more of their careers fighting above 175 than otherwise. To answer your question I don’t know. Some were definitely former or current light heavy weights. Either way, I think it’s safe to say that Moore had a lot of wins over 175 lbs and quite a few good ones at that
Agree. I think he has a very good heavyweight resume. I’d like to see all of us talk a little bit further regarding the Mongoose.
With wins over Bivins x4, Nino x2, Baker, Satterfield, Muscato, Davidson, cocoa kid, Bean, Abel cestac, Sheppard, besmanoff, whitehurst, Howard king and many more (not counting wins over Johnson and Maxim) he to me is the best HW to never hold a belt. and I believe he had 68 bouts at HW not sure of number or if anyone can be lol
Quite Impressive Heavyweight record - I never took the time out to count but 67-4 is very good record in any era and 46 KO's Bob Baker had an impressive record but Archie KO'd him in 8 also beat Nino Valdez 2X - crafty Mongoose - experienced and powerful
This content is protected Wish they had more film of him fighting. Only have a round or two of the Nino fights and a round or two of the Bivins fights. Would have liked to have seen Charles v Moore any one of them.
Very solid record despite the asterisks affixed. The man was a legit two weight beast. Excellent all time fighter.
