He was, and deservedly so, with wins over Perez, Szpilka and Fedosov. Doesn't look all that impressive on the hindsight but if you were following the division back than, those guys were a lot more capable contenders than they are now and Jennings was the one to snatch Perez' and Szpilka's O's. IIRC, about %80 of the forum was favouring him to beat Ortiz. After getting pummeled by him, he disappeared for 2 years and wasn't the same when he came back. Going on a limb here, Jennings from the Wlad fight would've beaten Joyce and Rivas.

And looking forward to see Ortiz/Ruiz along with Whyte/Povetkin. Hope they get made.

Most of forum voted that Rivas would beat Ortiz in a potential fight thread let alone Whyte.

Ortiz is too slow, too much a stationary immobile, hittable for taget for Whyte who is one of the most powerful punchers in the divison, probably has the best left hook in the division, one of better jabs and he works the body better thant majority of top HWs.

Obviously Whyte has the far superior resume of two too.

Whyte's win over Parker is better than anything Ortiz has done. What are you basing your lionising of Ortiz on, other than the relentless hyping of 'King Kong' that Showtime have engaged in?

I do, but if I had a magic boxing promoting wand* we'd be watching:

    Ortiz v Povetkin

    Whyte v Ruiz

Two wily veterans, each aging but more skilled than the majority of the division. Two younger contenders with the potential to trouble the best. Winners to face each other, winner of that got a lot of momentum heading into a title challenge.

Unfortunately, boxing is proven inside of the ring so saying that one fighter "could or would" beat another fighter, is irrelevant. Fight the guy and find out. Duck the guy, and we know you chickend out.

Bold reaction, from someone who probably didn’t even know boxing existed back then.

Whyte clearly not the most powerful in the division lol Did u see Whyte last fight? He was slow, lacked power and was fat and looked out of shape. Ortiz from his December fight with Wilder looked way better. Ortiz has much better technique than Whyte, and is a stronger puncher.

Whytes gift of a win against Parker is not better than Ortiz win over jennings if you look at it objectively. In 10 years Parker will just be another former contender in the eyes of fans just like Jennings. Won a vacant belt against Ruiz who's probably just barely 6'1, close to 300 pounds and did absolutely nothing after and Whyte couldn't even win convincingly

These guys are out of their minds. Jennings and Parker were at a similar level and ranking, but Ortiz destroyed Jennings and Dilliabol needed a headbutt KD and ref who allowed him hang on for dear life until the clock ran out without penalty.

Whyte just came in out of shape in the last fight.

Whyte certainly one of the most hardest punchers in the divison e.g Chisora KO, Browne KO and the only guy to drop Parker. Certainky a harder hitter than Ortiz
