What a great call to get rid of this boxercise coach.

Fury was on a sharp decline, he looked like trash in all his comeback fights under him, barring the Wilder fight. Since the Wilder fight he was back on the decline, looking worse and worse

BJS looked like trash under him too coincidentally.

I never rated him as a coach but as of late I've found out I dislike him as a person too because Fury dropped some behind the scenes details instead of us seeing the Ben Davidson charm for the cameras

Fury's latest IFL sit down before the Wilder fight, Fury explains he doesn't even know how the split happened. Fury just wanted an extra pair of eyes to suggest ideas (sugar hill) and Ben Davidson said no, and decided to instead leave.

Imagine your best mate is going into the biggest , most dangerous fight of his life, and he suggests doing something that will help this chances even more and you not only trying to tell him no, you then proceed to leave him high and dry to change trainer and fend for himself 10 weeks before the event. That's some high level narcissist , me me me , scum bag level sh!t. They're meant to be homeboys and he just drops Tyson like a hot potato. You should be doing all you can to help your best friend anyway, let alone in the biggest most dangerous fight he's had

Turned out to be the biggest blessing Tyson could have had though so all is good I guess

Ben still deserves credit for helping Fury lose weight. He was pivotal in actually getting Fury back in the gym and shedding the pounds - the ITV documentary this week showed how important he was.

But yes the decision to employ Hill and Lee and to gain weight was the right one. I’m sure Davison would have had Tyson box on his toes again at 250lbs.

It’s all hindsight and opinions anyway. For the record Davison is essentially part of this win anyway.

Yeah Ben Davidson is a great weight loss and boxercise coach no doubt

But every fight BJS and Fury have had under him barring the odd one, they have been very lackluster

Davidson had nothing to do with this win. He made sure of that by abandoning Fury for suggesting something that would help him. Davidson would have been part of Fury's demise as his tactics would have been the polar opposite of what we seen tonight. He would have had Fury come in lighter and move movement. He's said it himself . That would have given wilder the highest chance of victory. Nothing about how Fury fought was influenced in any way by Davidson. And thanks god for that

I understand why Ben objected to Tyson bringing Sugar Hill in to the camp; if you diametrically oppose the strategies the guy wants to use (bulk up, trade, go for KO), it would inevitably destabilise the camp and be against Tyson's, and in turn Ben's, interest. Ben knows his boxing and I think he'll go on to be a very successful coach.

There's really no need to start a thread criticising Ben Davison after tonight. If nothing else, he saved Tyson's life and brought him back to the boxing world. For that alone we should all be grateful. He's still cutting his teeth as a boxing coach at 27 or whatever age he is.

To quote the Godfather, Davison is not a war time consigliere. He is all about safety and winning rounds, not the general you need to lead you into war.

But he saved Fury. Let's not rewrite history now, he deserves immense credit getting the mess Fury was back on the horse.

    Hmm

I'd say if Fury was set on fighting that way then you do all you can to help him. You coach him with everything you have and help him plan for that kind of fight with the assistance of sugar hill

You don't just dump him and leave him to it. The telling part too was when Tyson explained how Ben said he was leaving because "it wouldn't be good for his career"

What sort of egotistical bull**** is that. It was Tyson who gave you a career, put you on the map, your best mate and you choose to not even try and help him but instead leave.......because "it's not good for your career"

Disgusting imo and not a real friend

    Leave Ben alone.

He's a decent fella. Played a massive part in bringing Tyson back to where he is now.

Seen enough to see ben davidsons a very good boxing coach. Fury needed more than a one man band tho at the level hes fighting at. Doesnt detract from ben...just that fury was a lot better with a team round him specialising in all the different things as you would expect. For a 27 year old...ben working pretty much as a one man band done a fantastic job for fury. You,ll just not compete with a set up like steward has. Bens still a great boxing coach....think he,ll go on to prove that.

I thought he appeared a decent fella too until I watched that interview

He's just out for himself, blatantly

Well he's had two of the best to do it in Fury and BJS for ten or so fights and hasn't done a thing of note so I'd say he's overrated from a pure results based outlook

It's unfair to criticise Davison about gameplan considering the Fury he got was clearly physically weaker and rustier in comparison to the one the current trainers had. Everyone was telling Fury not to take the first fight, so it's natural Davison would take a defensive approach and use Fury's elusiveness, and maybe that's what Fury wanted too.

It's not clear whether tonight's approach would have worked in the first fight considering Fury's state at that point. Wilder looked more dangerous with the RH earlier on with Fury pressing, seemed to catch or almost catch him flush a few times. Now what if Fury hadn't been in the ring with Wilder before and felt the speed and power, what if he isn't as sharp ... maybe he underestimates the handspeed and gets flattened in a few rounds.

Pretty ridiculous tbh. He took fury from a 27 stone man. You kind of are fighting with one hand tied behind your back at that point. Gets to the point...we just ctiticise for the sake of it.

I'm criticizing him leaving his best mate high and dry because Fury wanted to get some new ideas and approaches

Instead of saying great idea it's the biggest most dangerous fight and you almost lost it last time, let's get all the help we can get. He says no way, you do it my way or you do it alone and I'm leaving

And he packs his stuff up and leaves

It's just a coincidence that his tactics were all wrong. He said he would employ a moving stratergy and bring Tyson in Eve lighter for this fight. That isnt my point though

Fury fought a slew of bin men in his comeback, he only needed one hand to beat em and once again I'm not criticizing Ben's ability as a weightloss coach. But his ego and just dumping his best mate before the biggest most dangerous fight of his life
