Why did it take Fury so long to finish Wilder after Rd 3 knock down?

Wilder had no legs the remaining fight after Rd 3 knock down. Why did Fury keep getting inside head locking Wilder and not just box him from the outside since inside they're just locking each other up all the time? Felt like Fury should have finished him Rd 4 given Wilder's condition.

No complaints about Fury's performance, he fought the perfect fight and relentlessly wore the opponent down knowing the knock out would come eventually

He toyed with him like a cat with a mouse. He humiliated him for his disgusting shenanigans. Let that be a lesson to Deontay and all thee of similar ilk

Boxing from the outside is the only place Wilder can land his big shot. why give him that chance?

Well Fury also knocked Wilder down in the 5th heavily. Wilder lasted so long after the 3rd because he had a heart and wasnt going to quit. He was prepared to go out on his sword.

Fury messed up in the 6th badly. He smothered his work, stood too close to Wilder, allowed him to counter him.

So you can only really make an argument to say Fury should have stopped Wilder in the 6th.

    No need to rush.

He was demonstrating the gulf in class, punching power and strength. Just an all round better man in conclusion.

option a) Wilder was very elusive and steady on his feet.
option b) The contract was specific that it had to go past 6.
    option c) Fury isn't a great puncher/finisher.
option d) Wilder has an ATG chin.

Not sure what fight you were watching but Fury staying close to Wilder was masterful, the clinches zapped Wilder's energy like Quick Sand. I have never seen Wilder this tired so early in the fight and he didn't even punch himself out this time around.

Fury had to be careful because Wilder could be dangerous and he could land that punch at any moment...

Is'nt the first time Wilder has shown a great chin and the heart to go along with it.

You still have to hit them clean in the head and Wilder was still defending himself and also throwing back to make Fury wary. Also, Wilder was clinching a lot, making it hard to hit him. Fury mentioned Wilder was bigger and harder to wrestle. It's actually remarkable Fury wasn't gassed by round 5 like every other HW would have been after action like that.

As Lewis said on commentary, Fury was smothering his own work at times.

The game plan was to take away the distance deontay needs to land a bomb.

He relies on leverage to throw which needs timing and distance.

Take that away from him and he nothing to offer. It was absolutely the right thing to do walk him down, get some shots off rough him then reset.

Why would he put himself into range?
