Maybe he saw something in deontay wilder, i thought he was crazy when he said fury should have gone for the knockout in the first fight.

 

Personally I don’t really like the analysis he was doing before Fury Wilder on BT. Seems he just wanted to put himself in the shop window

 

Roach was right in so far as identifying Wilder was there for the taking. But he perhaps failed to recognise how underweight and weak Fury was compared to his ideal, which we saw last night.

 

Davison? I thought that too. But at same time, I thought he was very switched on and I was very impressed with his little tactics.

 

I was the same. I really enjoyed listening in one way but just felt as someone who wanted Tyson to win he could have not discussed the first fight tactics and reads in such depth

 

Yes mate. He like everyone else though probably thought Fury would box the same way. All credit to Fury for showing he could win more than one way.

 

It goes to show the boxing brain Fury has. He orchestrated all of the change along with Shane and John of course. He knew what to do in the rematch.

That's three career rematches now and three blistering victories. Of the 28 men he's faced, he's stopped 21 of them.

 

What do you mean? you thought he was a great trainer? Why call him a boxercise coach then?

It doesn't really bother me anyway if you criticise Ben Davison as a coach, just think you seem to be getting a little to emotionally involved and annoyed about something you've deduced from a vague comment in an interview about them parting ways. Tyson's alright with Ben, Ben sound with Tyson, don't see the need/point in this charecter assassination.

Again I disagree, if your changing head coaches it wouldn't have worked to have the old one still in there, sugar hill was brought in to completely change the direction of how Davison wanted fury to fight, it wouldn't have worked on any level. Best thing to part ways amicably like they did

 

I don't think Davidson's a bad trainer, but yesterday's fight would have played into Wilder's hands a lot more with Fury fighting strictly off the back foot and Wilder not taking much punishment along the way. The change in trainer worked a treat as Fury has always been seen as someone who doesn't fight a lot on the inside which Wilder and his team fell for and couldn't handle the extra weight Fury had which pushed Wilder back all night and Wilder's poor defensive game was exposed a bit as he continued to move back in straight lines and has had a few problems with guys marching forward in the past like he did at times against Szpilka and even Arreola gave him a bit of trouble, problem was was that Arreola and Szpilka were much shorter and had next to nothing behind their punches.

Fury deciding to take the fight to Wilder on the inside also took away Wilder's main weapon, the right hand. Wilder wasnt allowed to set himself with Fury's new tactic of marching forward and the energy was taken away early on from Wilder so by the time he had any chance of setting himself up for it, he had virtually no force behind it with Fury giving him a sustained beating from the get go. Ortiz 2, Washington, Szpilka etc. May have been taking rounds off Wilder, but they didn't hurt him at any point and give him anything to think about, hence Wilder being able to set up his right hand in those fights and pick his moment to end it. If AJ fights Wilder, he needs to walk him down early and take away his right hand by hurting him, not hover off the back foot and be wary of the right hand. Wilder enjoys fighting at a slowish pace to set up his main weapon.

Props to Wilder though, he's got a ton of heart even if he isn't the most skilled of fighters and I hope he rebuilds and has another tilt at glory again. He cops a lot of flack but he'll be back. He still has plenty to offer the sport before calling it a day.

 

No one will ever know if Fury’s tactics in the 1st fight would’ve won the 2nd fight or vice versa but 2 things are clear , Fury won both fights using a specific game plan each time and he wouldn’t have been in the 1st fight let alone the 2nd if it wasn’t for Ben Davison.
