Liston is the correct choice indeed, Fury just exposed an absolutely pathetic excuse for a champion in my eyes.

Fury was one of the few guys who outreached Sonny and had a ton of height and weight on him. Can’t see Liston doing too much in their especially since he wasn’t terribly mobile even for being the much smaller guy

I like prime time Sonny over any heavyweight who ever lived, including Ali. I think Sonny would be bloodied, but unbowed as he chops down that tree in 5 ultraviolent rounds. Sonny by ko.

Prime Sonny Liston, 1958-1960, would be a bit too cagey for the likes of Tyson Fury. Willie Reddish was an accomplished trainer for Sonny, and Jack Nilon was a very shrewd manager. Liston showed heart when he fought with a broken jaw in his losing effort against Marty Marshal in 1954. Also this was evident against Cleveland Williams in 1959, Sonny suffered a fractured nose in his knockout win. Sonny showed he could go the distance and boxing his way to a decision win over Eddie Machen in 1960. Fury may be taller, and have a longer reach, but even though Liston was a bully in the prison yards, he had boxing knowledge. And remember Tyson Fury is no Cassius Clay of 1964. Size may impress the young, but the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Sonny will be the aggressor in this one, looking to land body shots to exposed frame of The Gypsy King. Fury will cause Sonny problems with his lateral movement, but The Bear will land enough to capture a thin majority decision.

No Liston isn't Wilder, he could fight.

Agree here .. There is just no way you can look at the Wilder fight 2 and think that is something is going down with Sonny Liston .. And Wilder floored Fury twice in the first fight.. And Liston has that power in both gloves not just one .. Fury figured it out .. Not hard to come in on a guy with no jab or hook .. But with Liston's telephone pole jab in his face, Fury would be smart to stay outside and do his thing looking busy. I wouldn't advise him to trade with Liston in a phone booth .. It is a good fight here ,, but Liston is the better more powerful boxer .. I'll take him

Agreed, Sonny Liston was a more proven commodity, in his era, 1958-1960, he was a very hungry contender. Too soon to tell for Fury, great victory, but it was one. We need more to compare him to the likes of Sonny Liston.

And that's the thing .. This wasn't the Wilder got exposed fight. Some of us already knew Wilder is a superb athlete with a great right hand but lacks overall polished boxing ability BIgtime.. Liston was a well polished overall boxer with power .. There is just no comparison at all. And boxing now is just completely different, where a Liston completely cleans out the division and boxer's these days won't even get in the ring with each other .. It's just a different sport where it is difficult to gauge these guys abilities because the competition just isn't there. I'm glad my man, Old man and WAY passed it Pac just answered this question

You sure got that right, I remember seeing the heavyweights of yesteryear on the Gillette Friday Night Fights. Pac is a proven great fighter.

I see this really going down to the wire. Could be a "on your seat edge type fight '', with both being rocked. Both banging that Jab out and the scoring would be so close. No kds imo but that doesn't take away from the tension.
    Split decision for Liston.
