You would never believe 3 years ago that Vegas is a home fight for Fury, Saudi a home fight for Joshua and the UK seen as a neutral venue.
Money makes the world go round... But the thought of 2 HW fighters from BRITAIN having it out to become the undisputed HW champion in the biggest all British fight of all time...… for that to take place in Saudi and not in the UK, is just WRONG.
There was a reason why they were a joke, and that’s because the yanks were awesome. It would still be they way if they had awesome HW’s. It’d be a tragedy if the fight doesn’t happen in England. Screw Saudi & Vegas. “We owe it to the fans!” that narrative has never been more fitting right now.
AJ is probably a bigger star in the UK, Europe and Africa. However, Fury is a bigger star where it matters most, which is the United States. I have a feeling that Wilder-Fury 2 is going to bring in over 1.5 million US PPV buys. That would make Fury the A side in any fight. Joshua has never fought on PPV in the States.
Ideally it’s UK first, then Saudi, then Vegas. If I’m watching a fight and not at the fight I want to watch it on Saturday night. Getting up at half three or so in the morning to sit through some bleary-eyed undercard just doesn’t compare. At least Saudi will be on at a normal time. Will be interesting to see what figures emerge from the Fury Wilder fight. If they really did do Arum’s prediction of 2m in the US then that has to be a massive factor.
I don't think Fury would be a joke in the '80s when Bruno was the best we had. I'd definitely expect Fury to beat Bonecrusher Smith and an overweight Tim Witherspoon and he'd probably beat the 5'10" Mike Tyson too, despite Mike's legendary reputation.
This fight has to be made by any means possible. These promoters should be setting an emergency meeting to get this fight made next. We'll maybe never again get the chance to see two British heavyweights in their prime in a legitimate undisputed fight.
You can't rule out Vegas now considering they have the brand new 70,000 capacity stadium for the Raiders. I'm sure that place will host some boxing events in the near future - why not Fury v Joshua? I'm sure the casinos would kick in for the site fee to once again guarantee huge numbers flock to Vegas for the event.
I would hazard a guess that the biggest obstacle could potentially be DAZN and ESPN, because ESPN would want it as a ppv whereas as far as I am aware DAZN’s model is to include everything in the price with no ppv’s. Sky and BT have become very cosy and just last week launched distribution deals you can now buy BT Sport straight through Sky at bundled prices for example and BT TV’s new packages are effectively Sky light. Location wise it should be at Wembley, but frankly all the parties involved will have no hesitation going where it makes them the most money.
I think it will be made in Vegas. It’s the biggest fight in world boxing. US PPV will be massive, on top of the UK one. Can AJ not have DAZN for his next fight?
