I’m wondering how far back does it go? Who may have been the first champion or contender known to use? Obviously bodies changed drastically mid 60s up. Not right away but slowly. I’ve read this stuff wasn’t hard to get either. Idk the whole thing intrigued me as to how certain fighters do without the edge? Should men known not to have done anything be held in higher regard if they fought in a high usage era? To me it’s terrible for all sports especially boxing or any combat sport where lives are at risk.

I heard cortisone injections due to an issue with his hands in '74 but I never heard testosterone.

Boxer B's body should be much more used to and in tune with that muscle mass. Heart and lungs, as you, but also tendons and joints and therefore less prone to injuries. That at least seems logical to me, but that doesn't mean it has to be so.

I refer again to Jack Dempsey's use (alleged by his wife Maxine) of strychnine before his fights.

And if you need proof that strychnine is a PED, please do your research. It was used by marathoners and more recently by cyclists and weight lifters.

    This content is protected

Although it didn’t do anything for him as it is and was considered “quackery” at the time. I’d assume like today if they thought it wild make them better every fighter of the past would have taken it. Or just about.

The American weightlifting team were all on steroids from the 1960 Olympics (and the Soviets were doing testosterone years before that): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bosley_Ziegler#Developing_anabolic_steroids

Steroids weren't banned and tested for until the 1976 Olympics: https://globalsportmatters.com/tag/john-ziegler/

So that's decades that steroids were in the sport completely unregulated. It would be strange if boxers didn't pick up on what they could do during this time window. Maybe it took longer than for some other sports where the benefits were more apparent (weightlifting, shot putting, javelin throwing, pole vaulting etc), but it seems unlikely that it hadn't made it's way into boxing at least in the 70's - quite possibly amateur boxing first and then pro. And since pro boxing had virtually no testing until this millennia, the 80's and 90's should have been pretty rampant decades in terms of its usage.

I'm in over my head, but I'm trying to follow this thread. What is "z mandibula?" I've googled it with no success.

One has to be suspicious of Eliis explosive increase in muscle in his mid 20's around the time steroids definiteky had come into some sections of American sports. And this can in turn cast some suspicion on Ali, who had jus like Ellis was in the Dundee/Pacheco camp.

On the other hand, it is also strange how Ellis, who looked thin at 190 lbs, ever could make 160. And Ali's size seems to be natural going by the fact that he put on 20 lbs when he took some time off after the winning the title from Liston.
