I really cant comment on that untill I see what number 2 did. I think it will at least be considerably less than 2
Hence the word predict, from the latin praedicere, which means giving notice or saying something before.
What a stupid thread, how can you tell the PPV numbers for the 3rd fight when the numbers for the 2nd fight haven't been released?
I don't think a rematch would ever warrant PPV but I guess with the first 2 being PPV the cats out of the bag and if they are gonna get paid what they think they are worth it would probably have to be PPV Fight 2 had the hell promoted out of it. ESPN getting into the boxing biz and having PPV forces them to cover the sport in a larger way now. They did First Take in the ring. Their social media pages inundated us with ads for the fight and because FOX had a co-promotion it was pushed during the Super Bowl, the XFL and other sporting events on anything ESPN or FOX handled. The casuals were engaged.I watched at a Buffalo Wild Wings and it was jammed all for the fight. I arrived to start the Navarette fight and had to stand from then til the end. I think Wilder with his 0 and his social media status has a decent fan base, maybe not willing to follow his career closely but enough to tune in for a big fight like this one was. I think a third installment hinges on how much the excuses resonate and detract from the loss and whether he can credibly stir up doubt about the win from Fury and create confidence in his ability to recover and bounce back and learn and improve. Based on the exposure a lot of people saw or read about the one sided beating nature of the fight. I think Wilder not being able to KO Fury in 2 fights, being stopped himself, losing his 0 and not being competitive have hurt his brand big time. I think people have DAZN and have watched PBC on FOX and FS1 and are getting used to the idea that PPV is going away, slightly and I dont think will shell out again for what they have seen The promotion of this fight was really off of the 12th round. He showed he could potentially KO Fury, he showed like he did in Ortiz 2 that he could be losing and win with a big punch at any time. I think the rematch also depends on whether that narrative can still hold true, and do fans have any faith in Wilder's ability given he had two tries and came up short already twice. I would be open to the fight if it were on FOX or ESPN+ not PPV but I know that isnt possible. I think a PPV would tank hard. I'm not sure anybody will believe in Wilder anymore now that his mask has been pulled off so to speak I don't think Fury won over casual American boxing fans where they are that interested in seeing him fight again I hate to downplay the herd like nature of casuals because it is always possible they can turn in and buy a 3rd fight. I just dont see it
Ali vs Holmes, 2 billion tv viewers “Thrilla in Manila” 1-2 billion “Rumble in the Jungle” 1-2 billion PPV numbers. Who gives a ****....
I agree with the majority of this post. As an American though, I haven't heard a fight more talked about on Monday when coming in to work since May-Pac. Everyone has Fury in their mouth, even the office ladies who don't know the rules of ANY sport were aware of this fight and the "blood licking". Fury made a HUGE splash in the States, and will be all over late night talk shows in the next few weeks. If he carries this momentum right he could become a household name very quickly.
My suspicion is that it will do about 700,000 PPV buys. Very decent solid numbers and a success but still way below expectations.
Yeah 3rd will be a hard sell, and Wilder selling it to all involved won't come easier. But I guess as far as casuals go, promotion could tap on the 'both were seriously hurt and neither gave up' angle, Fury saw the cards and Wilder was complaining about the stoppage, and an elite HW fight where both can spark the other has PPV potential. If nothing else, WIlder be more vocal this time and with the KO in the bag, Fury is suddenly more interesting for the public. My preference is definitely AJ-Fury, but hey, AJ got a similar beating and a rematch turnaround, and you just can't rule Wilder's right out. The 3rd fight in unnecessary and perhaps dangerous to Deontay, but we've seen a comeback from far worse...
