What do you think of Ward as a commentator?

Paulie.

Ward.

Bradley.

In that order.

 

Big fan, loved him as a fighter, love him on the microphone. Very measured and even handed. Him and Paulie are head and shoulders above the rest, then there's Bradley, then there's everyone else, then there's a few people who've never watched boxing before, and then Sergio Mora.

 

He’s bad, really bad. Egotistical, arrogant, inarticulate and unlikeable. Still, guys like Bradley make it possible for him to not be the worst in the business. Boxing commentary in general is pretty bad these days. When he speaks, I have to fight to not hit the mute button.

I was hoping Ward would be better because he’s a smart guy, knows boxing, speaks English and looks the part. Hope he gets better over time but I don’t see it happening.

 

There has to be better guys out there for this job.

 

He has to carry around his knowledge of the sport in a back pack.

No worse than Lewis. How many times did he say Wilder looks quite shaky when he was being battered all over the ring?

 

He's great. And able to translate the technical aspects across to regular boxing fans which is a real skill.

 

Noticed his commentary during the first fight of the telecast. He had some really good insights.

Like mentioning Fundora needs to learn how to fight long & that if his current coaches can't teach him how to do that, they need to bring someone in who can - not necessarily to take over but to help out & develop the kid properly. That's constructive criticism.

He also managed to keep tabs on what was happening during the first fight while the lead commentator was blithering on endlessly about the main event during Wilder's ridiculously long dressing room walk. I think his scoring of the fight was more accurate than the official judges.

I'm not familiar with his personality from his boxing career but he came across as intelligent & well-spoken.

Comparing him to Lewis is ridiculous. Lewis speaks like he has marbles in his mouth, rarely adds anything of real interest other than being a fan of the sport. I have no idea why they continue to use him.

Ward does get personal sometimes about Kovalev and Canelo but otherwise he's very very good.

 

Sine RJJ hasn't been rehired by anyone he's replaced RJJ as the best in the business. Paulie is a close second though.

 

Bradly is terrible he over talks everyone and is annoying.

 

Andre Ward is a poor commentator. He doesn't have the right voice for the job, he's monotone and boring.
