Solid numbers, big jump on the first fight. They really overspent though if 800k-850k was break even. They were hoping to break 1 mil. A third fight doesn't go higher.
Is that US or UK bud? Separately, I’m just listening to Bunce and Costello talk about how Fury made himself heavier on the scales by around 7ib. Thought that was interesting only for reasons that this shows that this does happen in the heavyweight division as part of deception.
Does the 800k include the 300k+ paid for streams which was reported the other day? It obviously doesn't include UK PPV buys. All in, including the gate, the fight has easily surpassed 100 million dollars. A big success. They said the fight was shown in a lot of American theatres as well.
They reckon 800-850000 buys in US, which I calculated to be over £52m. That's before adding in extra revenue from theatres and bars showing it and of course UK ppv. US sales are more than 2m ppv buys here, even at the new higher £24.95 price point.
So they were hoping for more buys in US. With UK buys included it's still a genuine superfight but with significantly lower PPV numbers expected for a third fight, is it worthwhile? If there were a way to pay Wilder and Pulev stepaside money, allow Fury and AJ to fight each other, give Pulev first shot at undisputed winner and then Wilder (after a couple of knockout jobs in meantime) it'd be best for all parties financially and of course for boxing fans who would see an undisputed heavyweight champion. Only problem then is Usyk.
How could I forget In that case, they'll just have to make Fury/Wilder 3 and possibly take a hit. Then do Fury AJ november time all going well.
I thought Arum said they needed 1.1million to break even, so it looks like they overspent and lost money? Regardless, 850k is an insane amount of buys considering it involves a British fighter in America, and solidifies Tyson Fury alongside Canelo and AJ as the biggest stars in boxing.
Or maybe if they take it to Saudi with huge fees for doing so, they could pay Wilder and Pulev very good money to fight each as chief support or financially prop that up as a standalone fight, with winner to fight Fury Joshua.
I saw something on Twitter today that said step aside money is being disscused for Wilder and Pulev - lets hope so. Wallin has pulled out his fight with Browne as well (which is good)... Stick Pulev or Wilder in with Wallin (i've no interest in watching Puvel get hammerd by AJ)
