Oscar lost most of the big fights he had. Oscar was great but not in pbfs class. If anything it makes you wonder how grest pbf was. Btw canelo is a stylistic nightmare for oscar to be honest a defensive counter puncher with better reflexes.

No one seems to remember pbf was 36 past his best in his 5th weight class. Funny how that works.

It tells me Loma's thinking sensibly.

Loma, yourself, and me all seem to be on the same page that beating a 3-1 underdog isn't particularly special.

Rigo was old and he was the smaller man moving up. What has he done since? Anyone with sense knew a prime loma would destroy a faded old rigo moving up. If it was the other way around it would be seen as a great win but it wasnt

Hey, I agree with you! :beer-toast1:

Beating a man you're favored 3-1 over is nice and all, but nothing all that special.

    Right?

It's not that simple my friend. One guy was prime fighting an old guy moving up 2 weights and the other guy was past his best in his 5th weight fighting a prime younger man.

The betting dollars saw the same thing in both cases- great talents taking on interesting challenges, but nothing too threatening. Hence the odds being nearly identical. As such they're fine wins, but that's about where it ends for me. I don't think you can get that much historical hype off a fight where the money expects you to win.

As far as a better win in the decade, I'll see your Canelo-Mayweather and raise you Wlad-Fury.

It all boils down to what the fighters had on the line, and in that sense, it's the clear winner.

    1) lineal heavyweight title
    2) Wlad was closing in on Joe Louis' all time records for longevity.
    3) he outboxed Wlad in Germany as a wider underdog than Canelo was. He was 3.5 to 1 to win and 7.5 to 1 to win on points (Klitschko was -500 going in).

    That's my pick

Dude at the time of the fight ppl were saying Mayweather chose Canelo to avoid Trout and Lara meanwhile Canelo beat both.... go figure Mayweather is the greatest fighter of this generation he could move up to 175 and probably still be favored that doesn't say much and is more of an attest to him than a swipe at Canelo

Loma beating a smaller fighter moving up is the same a Mayweather going up to beat a bigger P4P champ??

That's what the people who bet real money on fights had to say about it.

It's a wonderful metric to track because people can't twist the narrative after the fact to suit their agenda. The story going in to the fight is all that can drive the betting.

I could post a mile long list of people favoring Rigo going in to it, but I don't care about that. The betting odds are what they are and showed that both Loma and Floyd were just as favored.

My emotions don't mean jack regarding them.

Mayweather's an exceptional fighter and I've never said differently.

The quality of the Canelo win is very good. It simply isn't the best win of the decade because it wasn't significant enough and people beat 3-1 underdogs routinely.

I fail to see how that's anything but a fair stance given I'm holding both Loma and Floyd to the exact same standard.

2lbs is not severely. Cut the dramatics LOL Canelo came in round 170, while Mayweather was only 150. 20lb difference!

Looks great on paper, but in reality not that great. Just like most of floyds career. Looks amazing on boxrec, then you dig deeper and a pattern emerges.
