Bakoke is ranked 35th at box rec and was stopped by a light punching Mike hunter. lets hope Hrgovic fights better.
But therein lies the question: why not pick-up the fight and knock him off real quick while negotiating something better? Look, if its announced tomorrow that Hrgovic will be fighting Huck for the EBU title, then more power to him. There was a bigger fight in the offing. If he reamins stuck in limbo or comes back to fight Jason Gavern, then we have a problem. I am not against Hrgovic. I think he is defiantly one of the better prospects in a very rich field. But thus far, he has done nothing eye-catching except progressing as a somewhat accelerated pace, which now appears to be slowing down. The time is now. Big things are happening now if he wants to get in on it.
He may be playing the waiting game. I have written on here that I often wonder if UK HWs get pushed too fast and sometimes that happens with HWs in Europe and USA also, though I dont think as often recently (just my opinion) percentage wise. If you look at how in the UK HW scene of recent years they have stepped up in big domestic fights undefeated Fury vs undefeated Chisora undefeated Joshua vs undefeated Whyte undefeated Dubois vs undefeated Gorman Soon there is going to be undefeated Dubois vs undefeated Joyce All those tough early in career fights happened when they were undefeated, taking big career risks and were gambles for all. To my point. Wilder for example built up a big long undefeated streak with lots of knock outs and gained alot of experience. He didnt once enter a world title fights with less fights than his opponent. I think a fighter like Price could have gained more from more experience but was stepped up suddenly. Hrgovic has only had 10 fights and may be looking to get a few more fights behind him in a similar way. Consider how Whyte has not had a title fight but all the tough fighters he has faced, yet chances are a fighter who doesnt have as many tough fights but builds up a big undefeated record in fights that they are not expected to lose would also still likely get a title shot without the same risks
I saw the Hunter fight at the time. You think Hrgovich is going to go large ? Ruiz, Ortiz, Wallin ? Doubt it.
The Boxing public will not be Frank Bruno'd again. We need to see if a kid can fight. I love the fact that good Heavyweights are fighting each other.
I think Wallin is a great choice. He exposed Fury as a hitable big man without a punch. Hrgovic would stop Wallin. Ortiz is very old, there's not much upside there. Ruiz jr if he can get into shape would be good choice if its for a title elimination match. Otherwise I cannot see that fight happening. I think Ruiz jr would not take the fight, Wallin probably wold.
Wallin would definitely take it Mendoza. Problem is, Hrgovich is not going to be in a real fight while he gets big numbers among the American Polish community. Easy money, and I blame no Fighter for taking that. Wallin v Hrgovich would be a nailed on classic. Let's see.
He's scheduled to fight 4-19-20. Only a weak opponent would take a fight with him in March. KO 1-3 vs a non name wont do much for Hrgovic. Molina, who was somewhat known went 9 with Wilder. Hrgovic blew him out in 3. He needs more fights like this for now. Looking at the venue, the 4-19-20 fight is in the USA, so an American opponent would be the easier fight to make. Gerald Washington who was even with Wilder until getting caught with a bomb, or Charles Martin who has been in there with quality opponents would make a fine choice. If I'm his manager I try to get the highest WBA or WBC opponent in the ring with him. Hrgovic after just 10 fights is already #8 in the IBF and #9 in the the WBC. That's impressive. Both Washington and Martin are ranked in the IBF, so there's your match. Agreed? https://box.live/boxing-rankings/#Heavyweight I agree, he's ready for the top ten now. I do not think Josuha, or Fury will fight Hrgovic in 2020. The longer they wait, the better Hrgovic's chances are.
Wallin is not Polish, he's from Sweden. But I agree that would be a good pick! A KO win over the guy who left Fury's face a bloody mess would give Hrgovic what some might refer to as extra street credit, especially now that Fury is still on Cloud 9 with his win over Wilder. This could lead to a fight with Fuy in the future. I like it. Fury is good, but has become vastly over rated since beating Wilder. Once Wilder gets Ko'd again, Fury's big win lose it luster.
Wallin is ranked 15th in the IBF. Martin is 11th. Washington is 9th. Any one of those three would work.
Agreed, the whole slow burn career is an outdated model. Fans now want to know if you've got what it takes or not sooner, if you wait 4-5 years before stepping up and taking a risk the fans will give up on you andyou'll become forgotten with other fighters taking more risks in the division getting all the attention and opportunities. Just padding your record can also effect your progression, look at Wilder, set up vs nobodies for years and knocked them all out so never bothered to improve his rudimentary skills. Adversity provides opportunities to learn and improve, you learn nothing from just knocking people over in one sided affairs. A fighters progress should be defined by their performance and based on Hrgovic's performances he's ready to move onwards and upwards. Hrgovic is not known outside of the hardcore fans, he has no cross over appeal, while he still has time to build his name, he has some decent momentum at the moment with wins over the last 18 months over the likes of Mansour, Molina and Johnson who are all recognisable names even though all past their best. But he's ready to move on from this level of opposition and needs to do so, if he isn't to become an after thought when others like Joyce and Dubois are looking to make waves by taking risks.
