How would the theoretical fight between Larry Holmes and Tyson Fury end?

I think Holmes would struggle to bridge the gap and find the range just like Wlad did. If Holmes can't land his jab effectively and is being countered by a moving target he's going to be on a hiding to nothing.

 

Holmes was a far more creative Fighter than Wlad. I could see him feinting Fury on to his heels and then landing the jab in twos and maybe threes.
Fury is a tough night for anyone. These two could probably fight several times with different outcomes.

I'm not sure Holmes stops Wilder or beats Wlad (admittedly a past prime Wlad) in Germany. These guys are significantly better than anybody on his cv post Ali and pre Mike and would go through them all by KO, in my opinion.

 

I think Holmes is only behind Ali and Louis in the all time steaks. I wouldn't, personally, mention Wilder in the same sentence.

And Holmes is going to out jab, out box Fury from the outside? LOL. Holmes had nowhere near the power of Wilder/Wlad, so Fury could be far more aggressive. He would play with Holmes then ultimately smash him to pieces.

 

Fury is supposed to be 6'9. Wilder is 6'7.

 

Holmes was from Possibly the Greatest Era's of Heavyweights we have ever seen and Fury is from one of the Weakest We have ever seen.....And before you hit me with the Size thing with the Heavyweights in this Era a Prime 5 foot 9 Tyson would absolutely Destroy this lot.!!!!

 

Fury himself has said Cunningham was one of his toughest fights, his toughest actually. I have heard his father also mention Cunningham's talent. Cunningham's dimensions are similar to Larry's. Just saying before we start thinking Larry is hopeless based on size. But I do think Larry's reach and size were key to his style and can see a taller guy that flicks the jab and moves give him problems. Larry would just jab his head off? Based on? Wlad has one of the best jabs ever and he's bigger than Larry and he had trouble landing.

 

You really think the Easton assassin would shuffle around just smelling Fury?
Have a look at the speed, timing, accuracy, and movement of a quality hw and compare it to today’s mediocrity.

Honestly I think a fully motivated Fury gives Holmes fits. To me it’s a 50/50 fight. Holmes as great as he was was not as elusive as an Ali and elusiveness and fast in and out counters to me would be Fury’s worst style match up. To defeat an on his game Fury you need to make that large frame work hard and keep him constantly on the move and his own size would be the best weapon to use against him.

It would go to a decision. I think Tyson Fury is the real deal, although Holmes is much much more developed as a fighter than Wilder.
