Are Crawford and Lomachenko the best fighters ever without a defining fight in their prime?

Well Lomas defining fight went off to WW, Crawford for some reason can’t get a big fight at WW either.

If wlad at 41 beat aj it would be an elite 10/10 win and it would be his signature win and catapult him up the atg rankings.

but it was haye. It’s not an elite win.

also I had Haye taking 3/4 rounds, just didn’t think it was all that amazing.

You really think so? Linares was top rated LW and hadn’t lost in years prior to the Loma fight. Loma tore his shoulder early in the fight and still got the KO. Linares knocked him down but he was never hurt and got up immediately. Linares is definitely looking a bit shopworn these days but that doesn’t take away from the win.

I agree Loma needs a big win to stay on top of the PFP rankings. He wants to unify and the Teo fight appears to be next. If he can’t get it, the Berchelt fight is a strong plan B. Tank and Mikey don’t want to fight him. No other good options at 135. Haney is still recovering I believe.

Linares was never all that good though. He got his **** pushed in by Demarco then stayed towards the top due to an extremely weak division. Facing Euro level guys doesn't prove much.

Completely agree that linares has always been overrated, but I think loma could be one of the rare few that get credit without having a career defining fight, one because of his clear ability and ridiculous feet and he has that run of 4 fighters giving it the old no mas

He didn’t beat any big names during his win streak yet Mikey didn’t want anything to do with him and he was the top ranked LW champ. He suddenly got bad after Loma KOd him. Who else was there at LW to fight, when Loma fought him? I just wish all these guys would be as willing to fight top challengers as Loma has been. Not putting him in any historic category but I like his willingness to fight top guys available.

Really can’t say the same for Berchelt who avoided Loma at 130, Tank Davis who seems to run from any game challenger. Linares has slipped but he was the best guy at LW and much bigger than Loma when they fought. Are Andre Ward’s wins over Kov tarnished because he was KOd by a puffed up MW and a pedestrian LH after the Ward fight?

Russell Jr. is a hell of a win. His best to date.

I think the Luke Campbell win will always be underrated, I know he’s never had a world title but he was so awkward for loma and he had a lot of in fight adjustments to make, it will never be remembered for the quality of win it actually was, mainly due to the criteria we all look for when we discuss resumes.

I dont think defining fights always have to be against elite opposition. Elite opponents are rare.

It just takes a high level, distinguished and established rival, imo. Or, overcoming particular adversity.

So, personally I count Haye, Povetkin, and to a lesser extent, Peter 1, as some of his career defining fights.

But realistically, I understand your point... but Wlad has always been about quantity and longevity, not necessarily about quality. He didnt have a whole lot of great options.

Mikey would have knocked him out the ring into the 3rd row.
