If you consider Helenius TKO4 Kownacki a massive upset... don't.

Oh and the more exciting match ups, to me at least, are the ones that have a remote chance of happening. No-one fights eachother at HW, unless it's for a title shot.

Meh. Ryder is awfully underrated imo, bless him.

My conquest of the LHWs is an amazing success... but no one wants to listen. :(

LHW H2H is soon on the podcast though.

He is but think of his attributes and then see if you can envisage someone with his skillset taking out the lineal champ in any other division other than 168.

    Yeah. 154, 122, 108, 105, maybe one I'm forgetting?

Smith isn't/wasn't the best at the weight anyway, Benevidez or Canelo are. Oh but don't forget. Billy Joe will turn it up and hand Nelo is ass, then get robbed and NoNeck will pretend that it's justice for popping dirty when Canelo is clearly a bigger cheat.

After beating Groves int eh WBSS final he was considered number 1 in the division. Canelo has only had one joke fight there against Fielding thus far and we saw what happened when he faced Smith - he was KO'd inside a round.

154 I don't think someone as rugged as Ryder comes out on top of that division as it stands.

I think you're being harsh on 122 too. The belt holders there are solid IMO. I don't know or care enough about 108 or 105 to comment.

You are extremely confused. CW and SMW are better than HW? :risas3:

    Please list these killers!

He probably was the #1, but best is a different matter, imo. I'd pick him to lose to Benevidez now, and did then. I'd also have picked Nelo and Saunders to win, then and now. That's just an op, though. I still think you're being hard on Ryder.

122 is good, but both Naravette and Murodjon are very young(moreso than Benevidez? Eh, MJ definitely is in pro terms, Naravette, probably not), bit they're like the only two top fighters at that weight which are prime aside from Roman, who was the worst unified champion in boxing.

108 and 105 are practically ghost towns, as far as I'm aware.

Oh n I also happen to think 154 is a steaming pile of ****, Hurd is like a much worse Ryder, style-wise, and was considered #1 before J-Rock.

It wasn't a huge upset, since everyone knew that Kownacki was limited going into this fight. They also knew that Helenius had some tools at his disposal that could allow him to craft an upset. But Helenius had seemed listless during defeats against Whyte and Washington, and during a pair of victories over Belarusian journeyman Yury Bykhautsou; it seemed that the most likely scenario involved Helenius being outworked by his opponent on Saturday. He might have some good moments, but not enough to secure the win over a guy who had shown impressive durability in the past.

I wouldn't classify it as one of the biggest upsets of the year, and the prohibitive odds against The Nordic Nightmare were kinda ridiculous in retrospect. Still, given Helenius's form and Kownacki's toughness and workrate, the result still surprised me a bit.

154 is exciting but poor , full of mediocre fighters - belts changing hands all the time because of it.

154 while not the best, is certainly far from mediocre, I'd easily take it over Heavyweight. The list of talent there skillwise, is far deeper than at Heavy and is good and competitive in an, "anything is possible" kind of way. Even the shot old lions are capable of pulling off an upset and it wouldn't floor you, with some pretty amazing up and coming prospects on the way. And I say that as someone who's been very critical of this current era at Super Welter.

Excellent to very good talents: Sergio Garcia, Brian Carlos Castano, Patrick Teixeira Jermell Charlo, Tony Harrison, Jeison Rosario, Julian Williams, Jack Culcay, Erickson Lubin, Michel Soro

Young up & coming excellent to damn good talents: Israil Madrimov, Serhii Bohachuk, Sadriddin Akhmedov, Charles Conwell, Souleymane Cissokho, Bakhram Murtazaliev, Jama Saidi, James Metcalf, Tim Tszyu, Travell Mazion, Aram Amirkhanyan, Madiyar Ashkeyev, Mohammed Rabii

Solid operators rarely in a dull fight: Ted Cheeseman, Carlos Adames, Scott Fitzgerald, Jarrett Hurd, Nathaniel Gallimore, Takeshi Inoue, Mark DeLuca, Cedric Vitu, Sebastien Fundora, Daniel Lewis, Khuseyn Baysangurov, Magomed Kurbanov, Dmytro Mytrofanov,, Jorge Cota, Joe Pigford, Kerman Lejarraga

Still fun to watch occasionally brilliant old lions: Erislandy Lara, Kell Brook, Austin Trout, Jeff Horn
