I'd hardly say the Foreman that faced Lyle was a 'boxer puncher'. Wild sluggers sometimes struggle against master boxers, nothing unusual about Foreman's loss to Young in that sense. Young beat Lyle by wide decision and gave Ali and Norton nightmares too.
Mike still had a better-than-average defense at that time. He would have made George get a little more selective (ala the second Frazier fight) but once George started landing Mike goes down...probably not unlike Norton. Bouncing off the ropes, then the canvas...it's over. George by 5th round KO.
Tyson. Lyle was the only puncher he fought who could stand toe to toe with him and we see what nearly happened. That version of Tyson was still superior to Lyle in every way. Tyson stops him.
Lyle was 6'3 with a much longer reach than Tyson, Foreman would handle Tyson much easier and Tyson being shorter would risk much more because he would have to enter in a dangerous distance. Actually this would be much more similar to Foreman - Frazier. Joe in 1976 weighed 224 1/2 pounds and Foreman moved him like a rag doll again. Tyson is nothing similar to lyle
You're right.....he's faster, hits harder and arguably has a better chin. Tyson walked through bombs thrown by Ruddock and Foreman was a similar puncher to Ruddock as far as his penchant for throwing one punch at a time and punching power is concerned. Despite being nearly 20 pounds the lighter man, Tyson never went down once vs Ruddock who was a hell of a 230ish pound KO puncher. He also survived being decked by Bruno and Smith and remember, Bruno wobbled McCall, who had a chin similar to a Mercer.
Foreman by KO in a few rds. Since it was brought up 78-80 Holmes beats any version of both. Just saying
Lyle would never be in the fight with even a washed up 96 Tyson.............trading even with this version is suicide..............Holyfiled did not trade......Lewis did not trade with the ghost of Tyson If Lyle who was a borderline fringe contender who never won a big fight and lost to absolute cannon fodders in his prime can put down 77 Foreman and almost out even this version of Tyson not firing on all cylinders anymore will put Foreman down for good.
the legend sauhund good to see you reposting this classic breakdown which I dont know why you ever had to it's obvious mike would win George never beat anybody like mike mike beat mutiple slow sloopy boxers like George
