I find it really bizarre that an Ike critic would bring up someone like Bowe. He is nearly as unproven as Ike at top level

    For Glass cobra,

Ike could hit. No, he didn't build up a 35-0 records vs. no names, he actually KO'd contender in his prime unlike say Wilder.

Anyone who watched boxing in the 1990's knew he was a beast who could fight a full 12 rounds, take a punch and deliver one. His speed was good, his skill set which was still developing at the time os his incarceration, was also good.

Not sure what's your ax to grind here. Some felt he would take out Lennox Lewis. Lewis would need to be focused and having his jab working to win; otherwise he could have been in trouble as Ike, in my opinion, hit harder than Oliver McCall.

" People don't hesitate to favor him over all time greats, even claiming he'd knock them out."

Depending on who you call an all time great, I'd pick Ike over the likes of Jack Johnson for example.

I'd definitely pick him over Jack Dampsey

You could say that Ike proven his chin and stamina, and would easily be better than the best opponent Dempsey beat. Dempsey had some chin issues, and did not have good stamina in the later rounds. I'd pick Ike over Wills based on what I have seen in films too.

I suppose Going 43-1 (33KOs), while achieving the status of Lineal Heavyweight Champion, doesn't count for much on these boards - at least to some - and, that's a Bowe, who most would very much consider to have been a somewhat wasted talent.

There's a gap between Bowe and Ibeabuchi. A large and obvious one.
I hope I've adequately explained this to you; alas, I cannot understand it for you.

Wilder looked like crap against Fury, embarrassingly so in fact, and if you’re impressed by him while picking holes through Marciano’s game then I’d say you’re biased and have an agenda. And as for excellent stamina WTF?? Wilder was gassed by round 3 against Fury ffs and this is a guy who throws about 20 punches a round. His stamina is crap, like his jab, defence, head movement , adaptability etc are crap.

And as for only Fury ever being able to beat him in boxing history? Total bull****. Wilder probably gets beaten next time he steps up and fights a guy with a pulse. He got exposed. And yes Fury is big and agile for his size but he’s no FMJ/Lomachenko type. He’s cute but his punch technique is ordinary, he’s rarely in great shape, he’s proven to be very hittable and he backs up in straight lines which he only gets away with because of his height and reach (even then he’s been tagged and hurt numerous times doing so).

I find it strange that your “eye test” is so impressed by these lumbering giants who both show plenty of flaws and coordination issues but is so critical of other former greats who had none of the embarrassing losses that Wilder (and you can add a AJ to that mix) ever had. I’m wondering if you’re struggling to admit you might have backed a lemon.

Byrd was 36 lbs lighter than Ike in their professional fight. I don't get what's so impressive about bullying and stopping a feather fisted guy whose the equivalent of like 5 weight classes smaller.

You keep bringing up him going the distance with Wladmir ignoring the fact Wladmir stopped him in their other fight. Byrd was stopped 4x. He had a good but definitely not a great chin and was much smaller naturally. He was a good defensive fighter because he HAD to be in an era full of 230+ pound behemoths.

So are you admitting Byrd is Ike's best KO win? Yes or no?

You can post as many Ike clips as you want. If you've got footage of Ike actually stopping a ranked opponent his own size I'll be impressed. I just find it funny no one can answer my question and some of the same people supporting Ike as this monstrous puncher and h2h nightmare criticize old boxers who have chris Byrd sized boxers on their resume.

And so would I depending on which fighters. I just feel like the 100% confidence people have in a guy who was essentially a prospect/contender at best resume wise is strange. It seems people are obsessed with the idea of Ike and not so much what he actually was.

Never said it "proves" anything one way or another about how he'd do against Galento. The point that keeps flying over your head is that Kownaki is not a finished product and is still developing but people were quick to prop him up. A guy at his stage of development should not have gotten battered so badly by a career journeyman like Helenius. Maybe Kownaki bounces back and goes on to becoming a great champion. Maybe he loses his next fight. Maybe he retires. We. Don't. Know.

How did he show enough to prove he would beat a peak Joe Frazier?

No it isn't you don't know what a cop out is. This thread started with me asking who did Ike stop to show he could stop past champions and greats. I asked if Chris Byrd is indeed his best stoppage win and the fact everyone keeps tap dancing away from the issues tells me the answer.

Frazier, Schmeling, Charles etc don't have anything to prove. They had been in wars, dug deep, got off the floor to win, made adjustments, stuck to game plans, became champions and beat other champions. They are by FAR more accomplished and proven than Ike and that is not debatable.

Since Ike will likely never box again, you have to use the limited data we have on him to make your case. I do not care about "potential" or "eye tests" i care about results and who someone beat in an actual fight. Those are significant when assessing ability but they are not the end all be All, especially not in h2h. If you cannot make a convincing case based on what Ike actually did in the ring you are wasting your time with me.

Iron chin? How many punchers did Ike fight? 1. And they fought what was essentially a phone booth fight and smothered their own work frequently. They were not loading up and launching nuclear bombs at each other like Ruddock vs Morrison or exchanging heavy full body weight blows Vitali vs Lewis. This fight was more of a display of stamina and inside fighting ability than an exchange of power punches. At the range they fought at a lot of blows were arm punches with not a lot of leverage.

Id also like to point out Ike did not stop Tua either. In fact he never stopped an "iron chinned" opponent, so if you're criticizing Charles (when i never claimed he was some devastating hitter) it goes both ways. Charles was more of a technician and a sharp puncher anyway.

Lastly I'd like to point out the elephant in the room is that you are basing Ike's h2h ability solely on 1 fight...against a guy who was never a champ and lost often when he stepped up. It's basically a get out of jail free card since we never saw him show that level of consistency for an extended period of time. For instance, we know Ali's footwork wasn't a one off thing, he did it in several fights against multiple opponents who had multiple styles.

Kind of like how people get mileage out of Buster Douglas vs Tyson because the rest of his resume isn't particularly impressive.

We were talking about what would happen if Joshua retired after Klitschko. I pointed out how back in 2018ish people were in full blown Joshua fanboy mode and that hed smoke almost anyone. We know that it's quite the stretch now.

Point being jumping the gun with an unproven guy can often lead to having your foot in your mouth.

Nobody's been "tap dancing" away from your question. We've all answered it, explained why we reject its premise, and also explained over and over again why we feel that Ike would beat some greater fighters, despite his relatively limited resume. You aren't convinced, which is cool, but there's nothing ridiculous or preposterous about picking Ike Ibeabuchi to beat the likes of Max Schmeling.

Right. Which prime fighters did Dempsey and Johnson beat who were clearly more formidable than Ike, with significantly better resumes?

Ike was a crude brawler when he arrived in Texas . Curtis Cokes transfered him into the complete boxer puncher i watched him do it. What happened to Ike was a tragedy.

Who else knocked out prime Byrd

Tua was a big puncher and he couldn't ko Byrd

Ike never fought after waxing Byrd

    He was prime

It is not hard time imagine him knocking out some of the early 2000 players.

imagine the damage he could do to a guy like Ruiz for example.

If Rahman and McCall could ice Lewis, so could Ike. The HW division would have been much more exciting in that era with Ike in it.

But, I agree there is little evidence he would KO Hall of Fame HWs who had stellar chins.
