Is Mark Breland the right man for the job? (disregarding the towel throw)

If that really is what he and Wilder has been working on the last plus ten years then: no.

 

I doubt Wilder applies what he's being taught, or just isn't coordinated enough, not good enough....

 

Breland may not be the man for the job, but at this stage with Wilder who is?

Wilder is a stubborn idiot and I don't see anyone being the right trainer for him.
Nevertheless if I were him I'd consider replacing his trainer. Not Breland though, the other one. The Kiefer Sutherland look alike.

 

You can lead a Wilder to the boxing gym but you can't make him follow simple pad drills.

Man's a moron, and he's stubborn and uncoordinated to boot. What the hell can you do with such raw, dross-like material?

 

Deas is sadly probably the best fit for Wilder. He's been with him since the beginning and seems to know how to get him to do as he's told.

Nothing Breland teaches him seems to penetrate his skull.

 

Honestly I don’t think anyone new would help Wilder at this point if anything they’ll probably confuse him. At this stage of his career he’s going to automatically resort to what he knows and he seems somewhat delusional and is probably saying to himself that he doesn’t need to change anything that it was the suit, had an off night, or he was injured or sick. Time will tell

This should be the real question. No matter what they were teaching in camp as long as Wilder was able to be bailed out by the right hand, he was never gonna apply it in the ring. Breland was a fighter who was tall for his division and has the background to help Wilder. Losing was probably what Wilder needed to learn his lesson..

 

Breland was sharp, for my money he realised long ago that wilder couldn't get the basics down to any decent level so concentrated on that right hand show stopper, it's all they could work on wasn't it, which is pretty evident to everyone by now, I would think.
They worked on it so much toward the 'end' wilder would do nothing other than stand there round upon round waiting for an opening to land a right hand.
