Better than each was Grant somehow getting up after getting hit by the Lewis right hand for that 3rd knockdown . After being down twice and eating that right hand to get up with legs. To me, that was like Ali getting up in the 15th against Frazier

 

Not much between em,. Both looked gone. Holmes, F knows how he managed to get through that round. If that had been a peak Tyson, Lewis or Louis in there with Larry, he'd have been finished imo.

 

They were both phenomenal recoveries. Depends who you think hit harder. I'll go Holmes but it's marginal.

 

They were both incredible. The wilder knockdown had a lot of drama because most people had written wilder off as an unskilled slugger who was trailing on the scorecards. He had knocked fury down earlier too, so many people thought "guess that's that". I did too, as did my 7 guests who were all on their feet screaming after we had just got done talking **** about how Wilder was about to lose the decision.

However, getting knocked down in the 12th means you just have to hang on until the final bell. With Holmes, there was still 8 rounds to go! You couldn't pay me to be in that situation with Earnie Shavers swinging for the fences after I get back to my feet. Larry wasn't just tough, he had amazing nerves of steel to not panic and stick to his game plan under pressure. Most guys would have crumbled.

 

I’d pick Fury...I thought he was dead

 

Normally id pick Holmes because I believe Shavers hits harder than Wilder

But ill go with Fury due to the fact that he got knocked down twice

Holmes easily

 

I pick Shavers vs Holmes II, Shavers struck Larry with a right hand that I thought would have put him to sleep but Holmes, the great champion he was got up and shook it off.

 

Lets not be silly, neither is "easily" better than the other. Both are fantastic, incredible efforts full of heart and determination. You can argue either one and certainly not be wrong as such.

Fury's rise from the canvas did have a 'Lazarus' feel about it.

 

I'll go with Holmes from Shavers.

Fury getting up from Wilder's sledgehammers and then taking it to Wilder for the rest of the round has that classic quality to it.

But, Holmes pips this for a couple of reasons, one of which is that I think Shavers' shot on Holmes was harder. The other has been alluded to already - in that Holmes had a mountain to climb from thereon in - and he climbed it.

 

Fury since he got up and clowned Wilder. Holmes barely made the round.

 

I was cheering for Fury and thought man he just has to get thru this round now. I was on the edge of my seat full well aware Wilder could still finish it. Then BAM!!! I thought damn how unlucky, he was almost home. I was almost surprised the ref was counting, so horrific did it look.
