Jesus ****ing Christ people are losing their goddamn minds. Kirkland vs. Hernandez has now been postponed as well.

Thanks unhinged fear mongering media. Where was all of this paranoid hyperventilating when H1N1 was killing 4000 Americans a decade ago?

Well it certainly isn't that safe. The virus is very dangerous for elderly people and people with immune problems.

Good to see they cancelled the events. It's the right decision. We should not panic, we can leave our houses and go to the gym or to the cinema, but holding events with 5-10k or more people isn't a good idea right now.

Everyone who is speaking against it should really go and inform about the **** and the differences to a flu or H1N1. The way it's spreading is just alarming despite it won't affect a young healthy individual Under 40 that much in average. Nevertheless the main goal right now is to avoid it's spreading more and more and to do that you have to cancel the big events. Can't believe some idiots really arguing the decision.

There's alternatives, like have the matches in an empty arena, or limit the amount of attendees and then hand out masks and gloves at the entrance and kick out anyone not wearing it. Yes that would affect how much money the event will generate, obviously, but it would still make a large profit from the high TV ratings it would most likely generate, due to people feeling the urge to stay at home and watch more television. Far more than out and out cancelling it would. A sense of normalcy must be retained in times like this, otherwise people will start going stir crazy, panic and start behaving irrationally. The economy completely collapsing and the world going into a global economic depression will have some long lasting potentially disastrous consequences as well you know. Clearly protecting people's health is more important than sporting events and profit, this one is more dangerous than H1N1 and should be taken very seriously, no one ever said everything possible should be done to combat it, no one said it wasn't serious. But all I'm saying is exhaust all options before cancelling. Try asking peoples full opinion next time before calling us idiots, thanks.;)

It's also very sickening, no pun intended, to see this situation being used for political purposes, around the world also.

    1. I wasn't calling you an idiot. I was primarily referring to Sulaiman and his twitter posting which was quoted by ChuckNorris a few posts above. Saying "life can continue as usual" is just ridiculous and dumb as **** because it's not true.
    2. Of course there are alternatives to handle the situation. The UFC will go on tomorrow in Brazil. It's not like i don't want to see live boxing this weekend. I had a big bet on Hernandez to beat Kirkland at wonderful odds and the bet got voided now. I'm seriously pissed. But in the end you have to think about two things: A) WHO is responsible if a lot of people are infected by the virus at one of those events because one human being doesn't know he's infected and spreading it to other people around and B) even without spectators you have like 200+ people there with the staff, officials, corner members, fighters, medicals, judges, refs and so on.
    3. I do agree that it's no useful to start panicking. Life has to continue in some way even with being more cautious in some parts. But in my opinion it is important to reduce the spreading of the virus and you need to make harsh decisions like that. With a little bit of luck we might be over the hill in a few weeks. In South-Tirol for example, one of the hottest areas of the virus they started to reduce the social life to almost 0 a couple of weeks ago and now they have no new infections there so basically the infection rate going down for the first time. So it helps. It's the blue print how to beat the ****ing virus.
