Earnie Shavers V Joe Louis?

Boxing participation increased after people saw how much money Dempsey was earning. Boxing gyms got better after earlier generations passed on their knowledge to later generations.

Also for the most part the best black fighters were excluded from boxing in the 00s, 10s (Johnson aside), 20s, 30s (Louis aside)

 

He was good for his era, his era was weak

 

These Louis technique criticism is so ridiculous, it's not even funny.

 

I can assure you that no fighter in history has ever emulated Ali's style.

It would be suicidal for anybody who didn't have reflexes like Roy Jones.

The shorter the distance of travel of a jab, the harder it is to anticipate.

Lennox Lewis is an example of a recent fighter who used this sort of jab.

Louis lost to Schmeling within two years of his professional debut.

Either he had not reached his prime, or he was the only fighter in history, to reach their prime within two years of their first professional fight.

Look at who any other fighter in history was fighting, two years after they turned professional.

Jersey Joe Walcott was by far the best black contender of Louis's era.

Do you really think that he ducked guys like Lem Franklin in his prime, but willingly fought Waloctt when he was well past his prime?

 

No era is all that weak.

There has certainly never been an era that did not have dangerous punchers in it!

 

The only ATG greater than prime Joe Louis was 60s Ali. He was a fantastic force of nature and imo the most mind-blowingly effective combination puncher in heavy history (and there's been stiff competition since Liston).

Head to head I again only pick Ali. I don't think Foreman, Frazier, Lewis, or any of the heavies would have made it twelve rounds with him.

There are many fighers I like a whole lot better, but I've watched Louis' fights enough times to know who the boss was.

 

This era in particular had some serious bangers, including likely the hardest puncher of all time in Max!

 

Ali is the only person I favor to get the better of a trilogy against Louis.

 

Actually i think that is Louis who would not last too much with Foreman(he was no baer)

Foreman is certainly a hard one to choose against. Against Norton he seemed unbeatable, MONSTROUS. Beyond Liston.

 

No doubt you have heard all those testimonies about shavers power.

Well people said very much the same sort of things about Max Baer!

 

I am not saying nothing about shavers, but i can mention a bunch of guys who very probably did hit harder than Baer. With the ufc gloves that Baer used Foreman,Tyson,Shavers,lewis,Morrison,Cooney and Tua would kill a guy for week

 

Holmes, Tucker, Tubbs, Douglas all tried to imitate Ali to varying degrees

Lennox never threw a jab anywhere near as short as Louis and never walked onto punches in the same way, prefering to use his range and athleticism to dominate the range.

Louis best wins were around the time Schmelling dominated him.

As for Walcott being by far the best black HW contender, this clearly isn't true. Given Charles beat him, Ray fought 2 close fights with him, Moore had arguably a better resume and he didn't fight Godrey or Turkey Thompson

 

They used mobility and range, but beyond that, there is very little similarity between their styles.and Ali's.

Any one of these guys would have got killed fighting like Ali did!
