1977 Jimmy Young vs 1971 Joe Frazier

Frazier was a stylistical nightmare for Holmes and young he kicked their asses in every sparring session.he did not need being in his prime to beat young

 

Light punching cutie’s are meat for Frazier.

Young was uber durable but he couldn’t keep pace with an animal like peak Frazier. He’d be awkward and score early but Joe would take over mid rounds and beat the stuffing out of him for a wide UD or possibly late stoppage. You need more than some movement and tricky sucker moves to beat a relentless talent (and Frazier was a huge talent) like Joe.

Different levels of fighter completely in my view.

Frazier is the scissors to young's paper. He chips away at him and rips him apart with relentless pressure. Even if young tries to be overly defensive and cover up, frazier would win rounds on activity.

Young did good against the big sluggers because they didn't pace themselves well and were too eager to blast him out with one big hit or combination. Boxers struggled with him because he forced them to lead and it became a slow paced chess match which he was also great at. But pressure fighting takes him out of his comfort zone, Young liked to be in control and fight at his own pace.

 

Frazier was one of the best at chasing down boxers.

 

Young is beaten down, bit by bit. Frazier would get right in there attacking from the start.
Young would do his best to slow down Joe but that's like stopping a bull on the war path.
I can see Joe finally dropping Young, with the famed left Hook, in around the tenth. Game over.

 

Joe wears Jimmy down for that 11th round kayo.

Frazier knocks down Young in rd 1 and 2? Young who went 22 rds with Lyle, 12 with foreman , drew with shavers, went 4 with prime cooney, almost 2 rds blind???? I don't think so. I do think Frazier is the hardest kind of fighter for Young to deal with, but I'd give Jimmy a good chance to win.

No no! LOL I was referring to the fact that Young was basically blind, well, in one eye anyways in rd 3 and 4 against cooney. LOL If I insult you, you'll know! LOL I agree with you that Frazier is the worst type of opponent for Jimmy. But just because of that people short change him about his ability to win such a fight. He wasn't a guy who just had a few cute moves, he took that, and his other attributes to a whole other level. Lyle was all over Ali in their fight while Young made Lyle his ***** in two fights. I know Lyle and Frazier are different fighters, more pressure with Joe, but Jimmy was a very capable boxer

 

I believe he was referring to Young in his fight with Cooney being virtually blind.
