Holmes in 78-79 was not the finished product. I say that a peak Holmes more experienced was 80-82. But i will not debate this forever

I would debate he was a complete fighter by the Norton fight. He also pitched a beautiful shutout over Shavers in 77

Yes I know Marciano is better than anyone Holmes fought in his prime and was better than Frazier!

Cobb was the man who past his prime not Holmes!1978-1983 was the best of Holmes!
Compared to Ali and Young he is immobile!Cobb was knocked down and could not KO Shavers with that glass jaw!Even Quarry knocked Shavers in first round!

Walcott had harder puncher with better footwork and headmovement than Holmes and Charles also!
They were more mobile and faster than that giant!

I'd say that was Holmes' peak, but Holmes' prime was a little longer. Semantics, I know but it can get confusing.

Would you say that his prime could be argued Shavers 1 to Witherspoon?

There's certainly a good argument for that. To me Larry's prime was 1978 to Cooney.

But all respect to your opinion. Larry was to me most certainly the best heavyweight of the 80s as of 1980.

That's a good argument. I see Cobb as being just past his prime. I think Witherspoon would have been TKO'd in 11 by prime Holmes, Carl Williams wouldn't have lasted 8...Michael Spinks in 7.

While I believe Ali to be a better boxer than both, stylistically Marciano may have a better chance against Ali during 64-67, when he held his hands lower and could be knocked down a lot easier (See Ali V Cooper 1, Ali V Sonny Banks)

I think Ali had two primes:
64-67, and between his first Frazier fight and after he beat Chuck Wepner (directly after he fought Foreman) which was 71-75, after that he started to decline.
Stylistically Marciano might have more trouble against against 71-75 Ali because he was bigger and thicker, a lot harder to knock down. Add in Ali's rope-a-dope and I think he beats Marciano. Then again, I cannot see Marciano realistically beating 64-67 Ali, or even Cassius Clay.

The reason this is stylistically better for Rocky is because Ali (64-67) would drop his hands and could be caught. His style from 71-75, while still Ali, was closer to Larry Holmes's since he wasn't as quick anymore and a lot bigger.

Nah man, Frazier was better than Marciano.
Both were brawlers, and Joe was more technical with his head movement AND had more heart. His only problem was his offense was more one-dimensional due to him 'overusing' his hook, but only two boxers in history - Foreman and Ali, two other GOATS - were able to beat him. It didn't matter if he was one-dimensional because no one would be able to capitalize off of it.

I know Rocky never lost, but he never faced anyone the caliber of Ali or Foreman. Closest he came to was Joe Louis, and when they fought Louis was well past his peak. I view Walcott as good but not on the level of Ali or Foreman.

You got to understand man, Joe Frazier is top 5 P4P Boxers of all time. At the very least top 10, but that's a discredit to him.

That's a tough call for me as far as overall ATG. Head to head I think Joe would have beat Rocky (especially FOTC Frazier).

    But Rocky retired undefeated….

Marciano's brother tried to turn the Holmes press conference into a Rocky Marciano tribute, classless behaviour, goading Larry ,and technically Holmes was right, Rocky couldn't carry his jockstrap .

Sure, we could start bumping them or amalgamating them, but I don't like to.
