Where is Aaron Pryor on the P4P ATG List?

I remember that, and the following Monday I was in the emergency room after with the worst stomach flu I ever had. 2 days in the hospital and got out Wed. Nov. 18th, 1981.. My friend came over that day to see me after going to the hospital and I was discharged. He is now gone himself .Passed away years ago. Odd how a fight can remind me of something else.

Pryor would destroy Whitaker at 135 or 140. Pryor is the worst possible matchup for someone like Whitaker.

It would look like the De La Hoya fight except Pryor wouldn't take breaks and eventually Whitaker would slow down and get caught off balance for multiple knockdowns

So you're saying H2H Pryor is top 20? I just don't see any basis for that. If Pryor met a prime Duran at 135-140, he'd lose. If Pryor met any other version of Duran, he'd be fighting anywhere from Welter to Middle. Pryor would have been too small for Leonard and Hearns. People can point to the Hearns amateur bout but that has no bearing at all. Hearns was a vastly different (inferior) fighter as an amateur. I'm sure Pryor would have kicked Howard Davis's ass in the pros but he lost to him as an amateur. It doesn't matter. Amateur boxing is different from pro boxing - that should be obvious. Pryor would probably go 0/4 against the Fab Four. The Hagler fight just wouldn't have happened under any circumstances though.

Pryor-Sanchez is a weird matchup. Sanchez was a featherweight and never fought above that weight; Pryor was a lightweight who moved up to get a title shot. He would have beaten Sanchez probably just because he was a lot bigger - it wouldn't mean much.

 

Well my friend was a good person. I miss him. He was young then, and I was even younger at 16 years old. As someone said Pryor was better head to head than you can rank him in greatness. He was almost too intense to have a long career. That fight with Arguello was one of the best and he took some big shots and came back.

 

not a chance in hell of beating Duran, Duran would play with him.

He fought like he lived , hard and fast. He doesn't get the credit he deserves,
Cervantes (He was old) Arguello (the magical bottle) theirs always a " yea but'
attached to his victories.
Me , I'm comfortable with him anywhere between 25-75 .

 

Great fighter. Hard to favour many at 140 over him. Resume is lacking though
