agree Byrd beating vitali through his slick skills making vitali miss is an excellent win. however Lennox would probably wlad Byrd, styles make fights. But we will never know. And Lennox never fought a southpaw.
That's not true he fought one southpaw earlier on in his career and beat him easily. The whole he never fought a southpaw BS has been posted incorrectly on this forum so many times, people actually now think it's true. Fact is there were maybe 3 decent southpaws Lewis could of fought during his career. Moorer, Byrd and Sanders. Moorer didn't want it when asked if he would unify he basically said he didn't feel the need to do so, so he basically ducked Lewis and fought Foreman instead. Byrd let's be honest at the time was seen as undersized and out of his league, nobody wanted that fight at the time, but now many years later people like to rewrite history to suggest Lewis ducked him when in reality if he had taken the fight at the time he would of been criticised for it. Sander's simply was never on Lewis' level, he was a fringe contender and never really in a position to get a title shot. Maybe if he hadn't of lost to Rahman he would of gotten the Lewis shot the following year in Africa but he didn't and really only could of been seen as a challenger to Lewis again after he beat Wlad which happened 3 months prior to Lewis fighting Vitali and so Lewis never fought after than and retired.
Was it really Byrd that was 6 rounds ahead on the cards when Vits quit through injury? Wow... Oh wait... it was Vits. Another Eggman fail.
hey man I have Lewis #1 h2h ever. I reckon Lennox would simply be to big and accurate for Byrd. And my bad about the southpaw. Who was the southpaw so you know?
huh? I don’t get it. Of course vitali was ahead. But he admitted he didn’t know if he was. He got injured due to missing so many punches. And that’s a legit Byrd win
another eggman fail? This is an anonymous site so you follow my posts, Iv never recognised your name. Only ones I know are the big hitters that do round by rounds etc. It’s a boxing forum relax man
I think people are criticizing Lewis for Byrd situation because Byrd was much better than the guys like Botha whom Lewis fought in voluntary defense. And if you can say that Michael Grant was hyped by HBO and was a muscular giant (so was marketable at least), Botha wasn't a fraction more marketable than Byrd, he was short, fat and feather-fisted as well, had much worse resume comparing to Chris and was clearly worse boxer. So Lennox fought unmarketable Botha in a voluntary defense but didn't want to fight Byrd in a mandatory defense...
Lewis fought Botha in July of 2000. At that time, Byrd had just faced Vit three months prior. Then faced Wlad three months after the Lewis/Botha fight. Byrd wasn't high on any list at that time. And he won his first major belt just a year before Lewis retired. There was a short window for Lewis - Byrd, but that was a fight no one wanted. Except Byrd I suppose.
boxers tend to exaggerate the hardest fights of their career being the fights they won. Don’t get me wrong it must have been frustrating as hell landed very little but his defence was really good against vits. for example Lewis says his 3 hardest fights were mercer and Holyfield 1 and 2. We both know vitali was at least top 3 hardest but his ego can’t admit it iv got a funny feeling ike was his hardest. Ike just smashed through it. Still mopping up Byrd’s drool from the canvas to this day lol
