Mate, I’m a rugby league fan. The same issues that are going to effect Scottish football are happening to rugby league clubs. This could quite possibly finish the sport. Many clubs will fold. Its business model is dependent on spectators.

Mate it's absolutely mental. If this crisis is prolonged and goes well beyond September for example, or forces a shutdown again next Winter clubs WILL go bust. I really think this could lead to an amalgamation of English and Scottish football because I can see Scottish football clubs absolutely decimated by a prolonged absence of football and revenue. The game here would turn into an amateur sport.

To be fair mate, the teams below Rangers and Celtic have bordered on amateur standard for years.

Still it is sad to see the demise of any club regardless of size or standard.

Just seen the news about Hearts FC and cannot believe they are reduced to this less than 1 week after football was suspended.

    Very sad times.

The NRL is still going for now haha gives us something to watch but yes, clubs are beginning to feel the strain down here as well.

I'm a Kiwi but have always followed the South Sydney Rabbitohs. My username is after one of the greatest players of this generation haha. Who's your team mate? I used to watch a lot of Super League growing up (not as much these days). I used to Follow Hull, a club with many Kiwis/polynesian players past and present going back to the 80s.

I've always thought amalgamation would be good overall. Four seasons in the last fifty-five years where the league winner wasn't Celtic or Rangers. None in the last thirty-five. It's a strange situation. I don't know why English fans get stuffy about the idea.

I did wonder if your user name was linked to Greg Inglis. Great player mate. I watched him turn the screw on my hometown team St.Helens in the world club challenge game in 2015. We’ve had a lot of great Kiwis and Polynesians play & coach us.

At the risk of incoming English fans shouting me down the reason is because these English clubs know that Rangers and Celtic would be major players in the premier league. 50k plus home attendance and massive away support every game, the biggest derby in world football...

With the TV money both clubs would be able to compete for world class players that we currently can not afford. I don’t blame English clubs for not being receptive to that. All that would happen is that both clubs would deprive a couple of English sides from a Premier League spot.

Yeah 39-0 that day. Ahhh St Helens. The first thing I picture when St Helens gets mentioned is Keiron Cunningham bulldozing his way over the line over and over again from half a yard out , and yes, speaking of Kiwis coaches, very sad to see Mike McLennan pass away the way he did recently.

Oh, and James Graham is still a maniac with plenty to say .

Yeah, the biggest question would be how you'd phase the introduction. It would seem crazy to stick Celtic for example in the National League but likewise at the moment are they good enough to realistically stay in the top flight?

Agree that both clubs could become major forces given their support, but plenty of successful English sides with big stadiums and widespread support have fallen on hard times. It's not a guaranteed thing.

Not entirely sure it's the biggest derby in the world by the way. I guess we all have our biases when it comes to things like that but for me if anyone asks that question I'd go with River Plate v Boca Juniors.

Used to love McClennan back in 90s. Heartbreaking hearing about his decline and eventual death. Cunningham was a superb player but terrible coach. James Graham as some well for himself, especially considering he’s from an area that doesn’t play rugby league (Maghull in Liverpool). Our new coach Kristian Wolf is having a struggle with us this season after we dominated the league last season with Holbrook. We’ve already lost the same amount of games than we did for the whole of last season (3).
