As i have mention in the past, way before Fury rematch, Ortiz was always looked to me to be unproven and way overrated. And his power is a pure myth. How can he couldn`t knock Wilder out in 2 matches in 17 rounds, yet he land many, many clean power punches and he couldn`t even score a knockdown, yet a feather fisted Fury KO Wilder inside 5 rounds. I think thats tell you the whole story. I mean every shot Fury landed on Wilder head, Wilder legs started to doing waka-waka. Tho i think Ortiz was f**** in the first fight by the insolent and paid from Wilder team referee, who gave Wilder break, against all rules and totally robbed Ortiz, still Ortiz should have knocked him out if he was so call "Boogeyman" and he was so call so "powerful". Also what to tell about WBC corruption, after 2 loses in just 2 years time, Ortiz is number 4 ranked by the WBC, yet he hasn`t fought anyone of notice for long, long time. What you guys think? This video is very evident. This content is protected
It all because of Jennings fight. Old Wlad couldn't stop him because they both fought a defensive fight. Maybe that was the last of "prime" Ortiz or Jennings chin was overrated. Ortiz's undefeated record really helped him. Also being Cuban added to his Mystique. People are ALWAYS looking for the next heavyweight Destroyer. I was a big Ortiz believer, but if you really look at his record you can see he's been heavily overrated.
I think he fought the wrong fight against Wilder. If he employed the same strategy as Fury and made Wilder fight off the back foot, he probably would have gotten the stoppage. He didn't and he lost bad. As far as being overrated goes, he's no more overrated than any of the other guys that get mad love from their fans.
He's a good fighter based on the eye test, but he hasn't done anything. He beat Jennings, that's it. Tony Thompson was 100 years old too. I also think he should have KO'd Wilder if he was anything special. He was too cautious and never really tried to let his hands go enough to do real damage. He landed some good shots but never really followed up with real intent, it was pretty tentative. In the second one he should have gone for broke and actually pressured him. He let Wilder KO him by waiting too much and just standing there watching him.
Ortiz got many stoppages with the shots fighters didn’t see coming ,Fury has an 85 inch reach so Wilder couldn’t avoid them . I think Ortiz still probably hits harder then Fury but he has to work more to get the stoppages, he couldn’t even stop Hammer but Fury made him quit. Different type of styles , I thought Ortiz should have had a 7 round win also ,I think Fury hurt Wilder early to the body which also helped.
Ortiz isn't famous for a strong punch. He has good technique, is southpaw, more creative in offence and one of the smart guys in the ring. He doesn't try to walk with his head through the wall, instead he tries to set things up, to counter at the right moment to outplay his opponents. Maybe he picked the wrong fights at some points in his career, maybe he went professional too late, maybe he didn't train properly and watch his nutrition as he should have, but he's a decent fighter who belonged to the top 10 until now and he could have had good shows against any other top 10 fighter. Age is a factor and I don't see him having more than 2 other fights. Still looking forward to see him in the ring. A very nice boxing style to watch I find. Edit: And maybe people ducked him and waited until he gets too old for real.
Go on lets hear it all. I know all of the blind Wilder fanboys was overrating Ortiz to the heaven. The guy has done nothing in this sport, except that he showed how much past Klitschko was. His best win is a feather fisted very late started at boxing- Jennings. He couldn`t even KO Hammer. The way you show your power is by knocking serious contenders. Ortiz has not done that to date. And the facts stand, he landed on Wilder many clean power shots, yet he didn`t score a knockdown. Feather fisted Fury KO Wilder inside 5. And the shots that Fury landed on Wilder was not even hard. I mean the shots in the both knockdown. Wilder punch resistance is terrible. The first knockdown Fury did not even land flush with the right hand and bamby goes down. The second knockdown to the body was even more pathetic, Fury knock him down to the body with his lead hand .... How often you see that. Absolutely garbage. If Ortiz power was real he would have KO Wilder, he have 17 rounds to do so. And go watch the fights, he landed more than enough clean power punches on Wilder. Veys9 , no one ducked that fake boogeyman, build by Wilder team, just like they was building Kownacki as some monster, but both Wilder and Kownacki was exposed. The truth is Ortiz was the one who ducked fighters. He ducked AJ, and this was proven.
Man I thought after seeing Wilder fall AJ fanboys would knock off their obsession to discredit Ortiz just to discredit Wilder.
Honestly I think your hate for Ortiz is not normal behaviour. I bet if you saw him in real life your knees would tremble and you would say your his number 1 fan.
Good points i can see your argument and explanation I still think ortiz is kind of the boogie man mainly because i don't see top 15 contenders calling him out before and now
Ortiz over rated to the max nothing has changed.... Wilder bumbois just liked to make out he was some sort of monster because it mean't their man was gud too.. He fought no one other than over the hill no training camp Tony Thompson and Jennings who is another huge over rated American bum who managed to turtle up for 12 rounds against Wlad (the same Wlad Fury made to look stupid 6 month later).. Otherwise Ortiz has done absolutly nothing (unless you count his PED vilotations I suppose).
