He couldn't lift heavy because boxers dont train to lift heavy, they train to fight (at least back then lol).
IMO Joe Frazier is one of the strongest men to ever live, he just kept on coming and punching THROUGH your guard - not around it. Important different
Frazier could probably kill a horse with his hook

They should have taught him to clean and jerk before hand at the very least.

He probably could have squated a decent weight. Joe's power came from his legs

Clean and jerk despite it's appearance is a leg dominant lift i don't know the date of this event but im certain Joe would've been retired for a time that weight is far too light for someone of his build.

Form would be a huge factor. Joe doesn't look like he ever messed around with weights. Most his body weight was in his legs.

Eh he both did not have the form to maximize his lift for his actual strength, did not rain for max., power...
And it is still significantly more than an average man could do.
It should not reflect badly upon him.
Frazier could easily beat almost every Kimbo-Sliced built weightlifter-regardless of how many PEDs they took for how longin most any actual fight.

Never did weight training, couldn’t properly straighten his arm and had zero technique. It annoys me that people harp on this and his swimming in this competition.

They all should’ve had to fight 4 hard rounds with Joe to level the playing field I think. I’ll bet people wouldn’t be so quick to sh1t can his athletic prowess after he hospitalised some of his fellow competitors.

Joe was plenty strong, he just simply didn't do weight training like a lot of fighters from those days. Remember, Eddie Futch trained him for most if his career and he was old school even back then. Lots of the older trainers did not believe in weight training. Nowadays we all know that PROPER weight training is beneficial to fighters but in those days in was frowned upon.

I have said it in here before, all of these different era's trained and fought differently. The sport has evolved over the years and that includes the way fighters train. When I was younger and competed my coaches never had me lifting in the 80's and early 90's but nowadays ALL of the young dudes that compete at my gym lift. Too bad for us our gym is now closed do to the coronavirus and now all I can do is work on my heavy bag in the basement.

Yeah it’s like he was a boxer who hit pads and bags and didn’t worry about his weight lifting technique.

You would still expect him to lift that, its not acceptable lol
Hes my no1 Joe, weight lifting wasn't his strong point but he couldn't of made it any harder on himself imo, he was at sea lifting that, zero coordination
