I know a bit about this because i train raw strength with bench press, squads and dead lift not esthetic but pure strength i also train grappling, and Self Defense ,I know people who never worked with weights but his natural strength in tendons is huge. I think that probably holyfield could bench more than 70s Foreman but Foreman had a lot more strength in a clinch or arm wrestling.

Correct, just strength work, not a weight in sight

I get exactly what you mean here, I just think you picked the wrong two to compare, the pure natural strength in every department Foreman has would dominate imo. I'd actually say the all round power difference is huge between the two

I think that the bench press is a specific exercicie where the chest is the key and i don't think that it is crazy thinking that a roided rat gym like evander 1996 could bench more than a 70s.Foreman who never ever trained weights. Of course that George was naturally stronger and probably in arm wrestling or clinch easily would overpower roided evander . if george would have trained weights like he did in his second career he should not be allowed to fight against human people. Not for nothing evander called Foreman "easily one of the strongest fighters ever"

It says 1973 on the video even before playing it. Not retired.

Then you'd think he wouldn't enter a contest involving weightlifting i couldn't care less i just feel gutted that they didn't teach him... i wanted him to win and I'm honestly looking for excuses for a personal hero.

George carried a young horse on his shoulders during an interview for a chuckle in the 70s.

lol, I agree. The perfect killing machine would be 70's physically Foreman, with the more mature brain/iq of the 90's Foreman combined.

    Joe had FUNCTIONAL strength.
Years ago I had 2 co workers- one who was roided and lifted all the time. He was huge.
My other co worker was built like Joe- short and soild.
The roided co worker could bench about 350 and the other one couldnt get anywhere near there.
One day we were moving some furniture. This one piece weighed about 220. We had to move it out of a room and into another.
So the roided co worker wanted to see if he could move it by himself. I thought he would be able to easily and was shocked when he could only pick it up a couple of inches and take a step or two before having to put it down
The other co worker then wanted to see if he could move it. Im thinking if the first one couldnt there is no way hes going to even budge it.
So he picks it up a couple of inches and proceeds to walk out the room with it and place it in the other room. Im in shock. So is the roided co worker.
Guess who worked on a farm for years picking up heavy objects?

The concept "functional" strength is actually a nonsense . the key is you get stronger for the specific movement you train and it is all.
a mechanic will have more strength in his fingers, forearms and hands in specific activities than I do, but I'm sure that making grappling or wrestling I handle him like a rag doll. So i would call it more specific strength not functional because every type of strength is functional for certain activity

Just goes to show one has nothing to do with the other. You can be a great fighter without being a body beautiful or have Olympic and or Powerlifting strength. I bet Joe was Farm strong though.
To quote the late Roger Mayweather all those muscle guys struttin around the gym thinking there bad because they got muscles dont know sheet about boxing.
