Simple point imo Calzaghes SMW resume is greater than Spinks LHW resume

Wouldnt say it eclipses everything but it was a great win for a LHW and possibly the overall best win of the 2, but doesnt eclipse an overall resume at all

Its based on styles and Calzaghe was faster with a higher workrate and when his hands were in better condition could punch hard enough.
I think Calzaghe would clearly win.

Why do you say Spinks is one of the best LHWs ever?
Who did he beat and when that makes you rate him so highly?

Pretty certain Spinks Jinx would stop Calzaghe!

    bailey,

    Okay.

    Fine.

The reason you've noted that is obvious.

You have conveniently not compared their LHW resumes or their overall resumes.

Saying that Joe could win is one thing, but saying that he'd clearly win is based on nothing but your own fantasy.

    He scraped by Reid.

He had close, competitive fights with Kessler, Bika and Hopkins.

His major flaw was getting hit with right hands, which is why he was dropped by Mitchell, Salem, Hopkins and Roy.

Salem was a Euro level fighter.

    Roy was shot.

Hopkins only had respectable power at the weight.

Joe also didn't push himself to try and fight the best guys around him.

He never possessed the confidence to match his ability.

He would never have signed to fight Michael Spinks.

Nothing he did in his career tells us that he'd have clearly beaten Michael Spinks.

    Ha!

    You're hilarious.

You're on another thread telling us all how Collins was one of the greatest SMW's of all time, for beating a faded Eubank, a shot Benn, and Frederic Seillier.

Roy dropped Calzaghe with his forearm, he wasn`t even hurt.

    Yes.

    The point is:

He was always easy to hit with right hands, all throughout his career, both in his 20's and 30's.

Roy was shot then but still clipped him due to Joe being defensively flawed.

Spinks had advantages in height and reach and he had a great right hand.

?? Calzaghe only had 2 fights at the weight and I said that Spinks has the greater singular win.
Not sure what you are coming out with here?

Not fantasy at all. Calzaghe could raise his game when he needed to. People thought he would be in a tough fight with Lacy.
Now im not comparing Lacy and Spinks but was pointing out the game raiser.
Spinks had a tough fight with a 5ft 7inch LHW. Forget that when you keep talking about size and reach etc. Could have had a KD scored against him

You still havent mentioned Spinks best LHW wins

You say Calzaghe wouldnt have faced all these fighters but never tell me which SMWs Calzaghe supposedly avoided. Remember Calzaghe was at SMW. Which ones did Calzaghe look to not face?

Hilarious? Well please answer thoroughly below. This will be good
With Collins, I noted 5 good wins recorded there for Collins. One over a 2 weight champ who was undefeated had been a winner in over 40 fights and involved in 19 world title fights. He then repeated the win.

Tell me Spinks 5 best LHW wins? I mean you did call Spinks one of the greatest LHWs ever and laugh when I said Collins was a top 10 SMW

    bailey,

You know exactly what I'm saying.

As usual, you're trying to spin irrelevant facts in his favour to try and back up your point.

You know damn well who his best wins were.

    Stop being silly.

I'm talking about height and reach being an advantage to Spinks in a specific match up against Joe.

Again, you're trying to spin things.

SMW was dead at one point.

It was dead and he had to literally starve himself in order to make weight in order to fight WBO guys, even when he knew he couldn't get Ottke, and that Kessler and Lacy weren't around.

    He didn't have ambition.

He could have gone up to LHW at any point, yet chose not to because he was happy defending his lightly regarded title.

He only moved up in the final year of his career, even though he could have gone years earlier to target better fighters, with Showtime's backing.

Get back in the real world for once.

We've been doing this for 8 years now.

Although Joe was a great fighter, he never pushed himself.

A guy who holds a lightly regarded belt for 10 years where he fights a guy like Mario Veit twice, does not fight a guy like Michael Spinks.

    Have a word with yourself.

This is what he said about fighting Roy in the late 90's:

"I'm not chasing Roy, I don't want tough fights"

    Tarver:

"I've no interest in Tarver, he's done nothing"

    Pavlik:

"I've no interest in Pavlik, he's done nothing to impress me"

    Dawson:

I've no interest in Dawson, he's done nothing to warrant a fight with me"

This is a guy who was happy to fight Peter Manfredo and make 25 defences of a belt which nobody respected, against mainly C class opposition.

Yet in your mind, he'd have fought Michael Spinks and he'd have beaten him clearly.

    Ha!

    No.

He went life and death with a faded Eubank who should have had 3 defeats on his resume.

His first fight with a shot Benn was stopped due to injury.

He then rematched and beat a shot Benn.

    What's great about that?

Beating a shot Benn isn't a an achievement, and you can't even class those as 2 victories.

Frederic Seillier never did anything and it's nothing more than an okay win.

I never laughed that Collins was rated in your top 10. I laughed that you rate him in your top 3-4, and you rate wins over a shot Benn and Frederic Seillier, whilst at the same time you questioning Spinks' LHW resume.

As always, you're living in your own little fantasy world.

Joe would never have fought Spinks.

    Never.

Saying that he'd have beaten him clearly is based on absolutely nothing.

He ''scraped'' by Reid, who like B-Hop and Bika was filthy dirty and Reid fouled the crap out of him all night and should've at the very least had multiple points deducted, because he was absolutely riddled with injuries going into the fight and in addition to that he badly injured his hand during the fight. Hence why a journalist at the post-fight presser described his knuckles as being ''swollen grotesquely'' IIRC. And as you know, he'd only sparred 14 rounds in 2 years going into that fight due to being so injury-ravaged.

The KD he suffered against Roid was an illegal roid bomb/clothesline forearm/wrist and like the one he suffered against B-Hop it occurred when he was past his prime and due to all the wars he's been in and all the ''right hands'' he'd taken throughout his 27 years of boxing his punch resistance was not what it once was. Or does that only rule only apply to that rooster ******* sexual deviant messsiah of yours from Pensacola?

Right hand bombs like these. And this is what is known in boxing parlance as an iron chin

    Carl Froch

    BEST PUNCHER

Robin Reid: He hurt me the most with a single shot. I can’t say George Groves because he caught me square on in the first fight, when I left my feet behind me. That was a heavy knockdown made worse by my balance being off. Also, after his fast start dwindled, I came on strong, so I can’t say Groves. I remember Reid hitting me and saying, ‘F word hell, that hurt.’ Jermain Taylor had me down, but that was more of a sharp shot. Robin Reid could really bang, and in my opinion he deserved the win over Joe Calzaghe in their fight. That said, Calzaghe had to be tough to walk through the right hands he took from Reid.''

''Froch does hit hard but again not the hardest puncher ive been in with ROBIN REID hit harder when he was in his prime.''

    --Tony Dodson

    Richie Woodhall

    BEST CHIN

Calzaghe: He was a tough geezer. I wasn’t a devastating puncher; I was more of a worker, and that showed against Calzaghe. I hit him many times but nothing affected him

    Mikkel Kessler

Joe was also awkward and effective. And he could take a punch. I would say I hit Joe with some of my hardest shots ever and he took them. Carl is more a hard hitter but he’s slow. But Carl doesn’t respect anything. Even if you hit him really hard he will still come forward.

In case you didn't hear. Joe's mother passed the other day so it's been an awful year and a half for him what with him having lost both his parents during it.

I don't know why Zaggers is banded around as some 'bum slayer' at 168 by certain factions.. The guy beat: -39- 0 WBA & WBC champion Kessler -21-0 IBF Champ Lacy (who was a huge favorite among the US boxing community) -25-2 Two time WBA & lineal champ Mitchell (which should have been a unification if he hadn't have had his belt stolen in Germany!) Both of Mitchell's losses where highly contentious.. I think it one of Joes underrate wins considering Mitchell had KOd the great Frankie Liles & also beaten the likes of Otke*, Siaca, Girard, Green etc... Calzaghe retired him! Throw in the likes of Reid, Eubank, Woodhall, Brewer etc too & it's a quality run... You don't win every belt in your division & go undefeated for 46 fight's if you're some 'fly by night'.. The HOF recognized this! So should everyone else...

Just watched Calzaghe v Kessler again & the only rounds Kessler won were 4 & 12.. it was a shutout. Forgotten what a clinic it basically was.. & Calzaghe was 35 too! Some beautiful boxing. Kessler had the odd moment with his trademark 1-2 but was totally outclassed..

Yaqui Lopez, Johnny and Eddie Davis, Marvin Johnson and most importantly, Dwight Muhammad Qawi and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad...

Spinks' résumé pisses all over Calzaghe's.

Although i agree Spinks has an overall better resume sure, but i'm looking up the Davis brothers & come on.. one of ems 15-11  & some of those losses came at the hands of men who finished with 8-19 resumes lol .. i know boxrec isn't the be all.. but i have a hard time believing men who never won a world title & finished with that type of win/loss ratio are some hugely credible argument ending opposition.. & Lopez was coming off a KO loss. Hardly the stuff of legend really is it? Thats not to denigrate Spinks, its just fact.

I see the same delusional brits defending Calzaghe at all costs again. Calzaghe's LHW resume is poor.... he (barely) beat Hopkins who many in the mainstream boxing press had him winning, and performed workman like against a shot Roy Jones Jr who was routinely getting KTFO at that time. Calzaghe was never going to be a good LHW fighter that would withstand the likes of Adonis Stevenson in his prime, let alone the other up and coming eastern block fighters.

As far as Michael Spinks, Spinks despite his embarrassing loss to Mike Tyson was a dominant light heavyweight, one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time. Those right hands that put down Calzaghe before would pale in comparison to Spink's onslaught. Spinks in his prime and close to his LHW weight went 15 rounds and beat Larry Holmes. Calzaghe would NEVER been able to do that.

What's next, Calzaghe can beat a prime Mike Tyson as well? LOL.
