Tua drew against Hasim Rahman in their IBF title eliminator (most gave it to Rahman at the time as I recall), and Rahman was not particularly elusive, and didn't have an exceptional chin. You did not need an exceptional chin to beat Tua, and you did not need to be particularly elusive.
Which Baer? The stiff-board tallie or the amateurish swinging showman? Showman Baer would get stopped by Rahman, outboxed by Ruiz, Sullivan and Maskaev and brutally stopped by Lewis due to his stationary whiskers. This aint 190CWs he could get his respect on...
Rahman took a gradual beating in the first match and got stopped .In the rematch rahman was a 260 pounders monster strong like 2 joe louis in 1 and shot for shot probably did hit harder than Louis
The boxing IQ has dropped incredibly with this thread. If Rahman could box him to a draw I’m pretty sure Louis would destroy him. Tua tastes the canvass in this one
It's a waste of time. People here just assume that 1930s and 1940s fighters were terrible, there is nothing that could convince them otherwise. Let's just agree to disagree, I don't care. What is funny is that people, who believe that someone as oridinary as Tua would beat Joe Louis, at worst 2nd best HW in division history, call me delusional. I can be delusional in your eyes, I am not offended by that. Not anymore.
Absurd conclusion. Tua is the harder puncher with the much better chin here. I suspect that the reverse could be right.
What troll brought Schmeling up on this discussion? Have you seen the Holyfield-Schmeling comparison on here? While Holyfield pumped up in weightclass, the same cruiserweight Schmeling busts up Holyfields opposition like he was, due to...................................................... "beeing the better fighter".
He was well up on the cards, when he was stopped by an illegal punch. You mean he came in grossly overweight, and Tua still couldn't beat him. Please tell me you are not serious!!!!!!!
Tua probably hit harder then Lewis and had the better chin. What he lacked was the proper boxing fundamentals to put him over the top
