5 seconds ;) I can see the controversy but he didn't reply to the ref talking to him. He got stopped because Chavez constantly landed better punches to the head and body. Taylor looked out on his feet for the last 2 rounds.

I agree with the poster who said Taylor was outworking Chavez. He was throwing more but doing less damage with his flurries. At the same time Chavez was timing big shots to the head and body

Boxing is about hitting without getting hit. Whitaker did that masterfully while Taylor did not.

I disagree, Charles. I would say he is aware of himself. How does it massage his own ego if he says Whitaker wasn't the best when Pea outboxed him; surely it would help him come to terms with that performance better if he just said Whitaker was the greatest?

I think he just knows that the 27 year old version of himself who had just moved up to jr welter was a harder proposition for his opponent than the 31 yr old having his first fight at welterweight. He also knows how he felt physically at the end of each fight. Don't forget he's being asked who was the best he fought not who was the best overall of the fighters he fought. He thinks the Taylor he fought who hit him over 100 times more and who brought him to the brink of throwing up was better than the version of Whitaker who, despite fighting a version of himself with nearly 4 years wear and tear on the clock, did not make him feel like that. It sounds a fair opinion to me and, as I've said, he was the one in the ring. It's not an outlandish opinion. I see no reason not to go with it.

    I agree, Mark.

Having rewatched the fight carefully last year, I disagree with the conventional wisdom and classic boxing cliches about the fight.

And Steele had the right to stop the fight but his doing so revealed poor judgement and awareness, imo.

For "fastest hands" you might as well toss a coin to decide between Taylor and Camacho -if not for the fact that Camacho was in his lat thirties when Chavez fought him. I wonder how hard he'd have had to think about it if he'd fought prime Camacho.

Morning JT, Chavez was shot but I don't think he ever looked as hurt in a fight as he looked after Tszyu decked him in round six. After he rose from the knockdown Chavez walked towards his corner like he was going to quit.

    Cheers All.

I think Chavez, Whitaker and the Macho man were all at their best at lightweight and any matchup between the 3 at that weight would have been great.

This was the most hurt he was for sure, even if shot.

Yeah Chavez took some bombs. Dude's cranium was extra thick. He just kept coming forward like a supernatural slasher from the 80's horror scene!!

Does Tszyu beat Chavez in their prime? Probably not.

    He was a monster.

Hard to say. It wasn't Chavez's best weight but he was still damn good there. He's the better fighter but with KT's immense strength and power is he the better Junior Welter? Close.
