Not to mention that Holyfield turned down a potential 25m IIRC to face Jones after Ruiz. Said he didn't want to be embarassed.

That's kind of the best rating by a fellow pro you can get

I know he was landing the straight right Joe adjusted and Roy missed nearly every straight right after that.

You don`t gas after two rounds because you`re in your late 30`s, he wasn`t fighting at a high pace, WTF?

I've read Jim Thomas' book, who was Evander's attorney for over a decade.

He was responsible for making all of his fights.

He says that he tried to make a fight with Evander and Roy in 2003, but that Don King and Roy's advisor, Murad Muhammad, wanted too much money from the promotion. Basically, they were trying to be too greedy. Also, King wouldn't pay money that was owed to Evander from a previous fight. Which is why Evander ended up taking on Toney instead, even though the guarantee was for less money. Evander was a principled man who told Thomas to drop all discussions with King. But if they could have reached a compromise, the fight would have happened. Evander definitely would have fought Roy.

It was in 1998 that Evander said that he wasn't interested. Because at the time, he thought that he was in a no-win situation. But he did say that if Roy made waves/proved himself at HW, then he would be open to it.

Mark, he was completely out of his depth.

Do you not realise that he'd lost 3 consecutive fights, 3-4 years earlier?

He must have thought Christmas had come early when Joe offered him a 50/50 deal of the promotion.

Joe went into the fight off of wins over Kessler and Hopkins, whereas Roy had just fought an inactive (for 3 years) version of Tito, who couldn't even make the agreed upon C-W of a 170 pounds.

Roy was no longer a world class fighter.

He was 9 weeks from his 40th birthday and extremely vulnerable.

How anyone can use this fight as any kind of yardstick is baffling.

Yes he was out of breath after the first knock down but your tongue is too far up Joe's arsehole to realise that. Get in deeper

Stamina is the first thing you lose. We know Jones was breathing out his arse in the first Tarver fight after 4-5 rounds

Another fight with low volume punching, mainly jabs were thrown in that bout and Roy was struggling from the start of that one.

Roy was gassed after losing muscle in a short space of time.
