Lewis' Power Jab

Decent jab, weak chin. That's why he pawed. Far better than Holyfield jab though. Even roided up Evan Fields couldn't pop said jab.

 

It wasn't always consistent and he could, as mentioned, paw with it too much, but in terms of sheer versatility - to blind, flick and step in with - it was as good as anyone's.

There was jab he gave Vitali that went down to the heels.

Hi Robert, I reckon both Holmes and Ali had the ability to step into the jab and use it as a power jab if they wanted to but unlike most of the other fighters on your list they could also jab while moving. Ali hit Liston and Foreman with some really hard jabs, ditto Quarry in their first fight.

I do believe Larry telegraphed his jab more than Ali, left it out there a bit longer and wasnt quite as good as disguising it as a PRIME Ali because Larry tended to sit down on his jab a bit more meaning that Larry was countered more often by fighter timing the jab and countering with the right hand.

Wladimir and Holyfield could also jab on the move unlike the other fighters on your list. Lennox to an extent but not as well as Wlad or Evander. Holyfield's jab lacked sting though. He tended to use it to set up his combinations more than using it as a stand alone scoring punch.

I'm not as impressed as alot of people are about Ali's jab. Very fast yes and it could be punishing through sheer volume. I always felt Holmes had the best most versatile jab in the division. I'm quite vocal on that lol. He used it I'm more ways offensively and defensively than any other fighter regardless of weight class. Range finder..flick ..hard bust in the mouth, you name it he could do it.
I do agree with you about Holy. I should have replaced him with Bowe who I overlooked.

 

Evander popped Tinkerbell with his jab plenty of times and Tinfoil Mike was at a complete loss to stop them.

Doesn’t say much for your idol does it if Holy and Lewis wrecked your boy with their decent to poor jabs? Knob.

 

Lennox Lewis had a hard left jab, only if he had been with Emmanuel Steward, when he fought Hassim Rahman and Oliver McCall, the first time, he would have stayed undefeated. Lewis would have learned better defense, and would have utilized his jab better.

 

But you did mention Ali's jab at all. You don't like him too much obviously

 

To be Fair lennox had a great defence he was very tall with a huge reach he was very hard to hit clean in the chin but when somebody did lennox was hurt so i would not say weak chin but average chin yes.

 

With all properties taken into account, (reach, speed, accuracy, power, strategically appropriate application) quite possibly the single best "power jab" in heavyweight history. Holmes has the best "rapier" jab.

 

My bad. I was trying to goad Unforgiven and confused his starry eyed hero worship of Holyfield for Lewis. That's right, he's not a Lewis fan one bit.

As far as the weak chin goes, no it wasn't weak, but solid. And he was able to run through the powerhitters because his skills were that much better. I rank Lewis right with Tyson.
