I read once that Joe Louis and Max Baer only both wanted to really hurt one opponent they fought, and his name was Tony Galento.
yes a boxing match, Which has rules. You don’t try and gouge an eye out. But whatever someone gets dirty get dirty right back at them. Let the ref handle it and if he don’t he don’t. Still think galento was pos
Tua was a lot more mobile and quicker than Galento. and he didnt cut.Galento had a good chin, Tua a great one.Tua also had a good right hand.
I'm not interested in his amateur career. As a pro ,bang in his prime, he was embarrassed and beat up by much smaller guys. 1936-06-19 220 Al Gainer 168½ 56 15 5 Yankee Stadium, Bronx L TKO 4/10 time: 1:04 Fight stopped because of a badly cut eye suffered by Galento. Gainer battered him throughout the fight. 1936-02-29 235 Al Delaney 179 33 5 3 Ridgewood Grove, Brooklyn L PTS 6/6 1935-11-01 228½ Eddie Mader 185 33 18 4 Madison Square Garden, New York L PTS 6/6 And these were journeymen.
True, because he was journeymen for most of his career and had a brief moment when he reached high level. His peak was short, but dangerous. I never said that he was a good fighter throughout his whole career, my point was more about him being better boxer than some believe based on footage from Baer and Louis fights. He could box, he didn't like doing so and prefered wild brawls. I'm sure a lot of amateur boxers say that they would destroy Galento based on watching him, but I'm sure most would be shocked.
He had a good chin, power in his left hook, no jab, clumsy slow feet and didn't know what a combination as.
