Someone posted a highlight vid featuring Delahoya`s combo skills and it got me wondering if his combo`s were quicker than Robinson`s were in his respective prime, when I re-checked Robi`s combo highlifghts, I gave the edge to Oscar, but Ray had more sting in his combo`s, which fighter had the more effective combo puncher style of these two? ODLH was a stiff, fast arm puncher (see attempted combos on Pernell) with a very good left hook. SRR was a fluid, smooth, rhythmic puncher with dynamite in both hands. Look at the leverage and placement of their punches - I felt many times ODLH threw punches in bunches hoping that they would land and take his man out, whereas SRR was throwing wicked combinations to head and body with a fluidity and ease that Oscar could only hope to achieve. ODLH was a great competitor, but he doesn't rank near SRR for combination punching - you're better off using people like Louis, Napoles, SRL, prime Duran etc. for combination punching prowess.
SRR was poetry in motion unleashing combos. Fast, fluid and pinpoint upstairs and down. And he hit hard both hands to the body and head. Oscar was excellent but he basically flurried until he finished with a vicious left hook so he wasn’t exactly a combination puncher like Robinson was. Great fighter but by and large one handed. Beautiful left jab and superb left hook. Robinson was great with both hands.[/QUOTE] Excellent post mate. I wouldn’t have bothered responding if I’d read this first. It covers the differences between the two fighters capabilities precisely. Perfectly encapsulated.

ODLH was a fantastic competitor, who had a great left hand - he wouldn't have lived with Hearns, arguably Benitez and definitely Leonard, all fighters who didn't have Robinson's combined punching flair, placement and KO ability with either hand.
Robinson and here's why. 1st The video shown of Robinson are primarily of his Middleweight career, not at his absolute best at welter. #2 Deyloyhoa's power punch was his left hook his right had wasn't a big threat, Robinson on the other hand could end a fight with either hand. #3, Deloyhoa's was stiff, robotic, could be predictable. Robinson was far more creative and flowing in his approach to combo punching. A much better comparison to Robinson would've been Leonard, who was equal, or maybe a little better in combo punching with exception to ko power, Robinson hit harder than Leonard.
Leonard was faster in pure handspeed than Robbi, but Robbi's placement and power combination stands him apart for me. Only other fighters that punch that hard and accurately in combination are likely Williams, Louis, Tyson, Charles pre-Baroudi, RJJ arguably on a p4p - my knowledge of lighter weight fighters is admittedly low. The combination of hooks to the body in flurry, followed up by double and triple left hooks to body and then to head - all backed up by the threat of the right hand. SRR for me is like a hybrid between Leonard and Hearns, with better durability and a ferociousness that few fighters in history can match - and all of this is gleaned from his MW self, where by all accounts, it pales to his WW best. Consider Robbi has his own Doyle incident and one can argue that he likely held back some of his power in fights
Yes Ray`s combo`s were more dangerous than DLH`s, he put bite into each shot and floored more people with his combo`s than Oscar did. This content is protected
I disagree bigly with whoever said DLH threw arm punches... Oscar was a fantastic puncher and in combination too. Robinson threw more, threw longer strings of punches than Oscar. Robinson better as a combination puncher. Go watch Oscar vs Hernandez and come back and tell me Oscar isnt fluid and throws arm punches... Ridiculous.
Robinson had far more power in his combos and dropped more fighters with combos he also finished more fighters with combos.
