Could very well be. I just wish we had those stats. It would be cool to see hit percentage per fight. I swear there are a few where whittaker actually gets hit flush maybe 6 or 7 times.
No knock on Sweet Pea but by the time he was 12-0 he'd been dropped in 3 separate fights all of which occurred when he was campaigning in his first weight class or technically a pound over it for one or two of them. The reason I first brought this up was to counter all the crap Loma was subjected to for suffering a flash KD against the much bigger and heavier Linares even though it was his first fight at 135 and his third weight class.
Loma has far fewer fights than pbf had and he hasnt fought the level of opposition that pbf has. These stats are misleading. His defense is good but no where the level of pbf.
It all depends on level of opposition. Maybe Lomachenko should step up now. For example, Past prime Salido landed 25% of his punches on Lomachenko, while Angulo, a similar type fighter to Salido, landed only 14% of his punches on Canelo. Stats in boxing don't always tell the true story.
Only legal punches that compubox count. So if I did include the illegal punches, the connect percentage would be higher for Salido.
Footwork does, Canelo does not evade shots using his feet the way Loma does, his feet are always active, Canelo suffered a knee injury which hampers his movement.
Loma has these stats coming forwards, in a lot of Floyd`s fights he was backing off and waiting to counter which makes it easier to evade shots.
